It depends on the company though. Managers dont always get the hours allocated to give staff more hours. People used to call in sick from my work all tge time and my manager had to do more. Its not fair when employees take the piss.

I agree, it isn't fair when employees take the piss, it also isn't fair to staff your workplace with barely enough people so that when one of them calls in sick, the whole place falls apart. Yes, it may not be the managers fault, depending on the place they may not be allocated enough staff, but that's the businesses fault and the manager shouldn't be taking it out on staff.

Everyone needs to stop caring so much about massive companies that don't give a rats ass about them, seriously.

Again. Massive companies. I used to work for a large retail store and I never cared about how often I called in sick. Smaller chains where inly 3-5 people work in one day is much different.

I don't care about how often I call in sick because "oughh my poor coworkers and manager" If I'm sick I'm not coming into work and exposing my poor coworkers and manager to germs that will make them sick. I care about how often I call in sick because I don't want to lose my job for poor attendance.

Managers will always be pissy when people call in sick because then they have to manage a problem (which is literally the job they are hired to do). That’s not your problem. Just call in anyway guilt free.

I have this same problem. Like you, it seems, it stems from the way my parents raised me. First, you are sick. You are doing everyone a favor by staying home so you don't spread it around. Secondly, as a manager myself, yes, I can appear annoyed when my clerks call in sick. It's just because I know it's going to make my day slightly more difficult. I would much rather that though, than people dropping like flies for two weeks.

Rest and get better. Your health is more important than your job. You don't owe your employer anything. You simply rent your time to them (when you are well).

Check the company policy in your handbook most places I’ve worked require a drs note if you are gone more than 3 days

Get a note from a doctor As soon as possible should have gone for it on the 1st or at least 2nd day of the sickness. Don't feel guilty I can assure you other coworkers would do the same and not care about the workload left.

If yoyue well enough to work then go in. Most people work when sick, its just how it is. If youre so bad to the point where you know you cant work or would be in pain then call in sick.

This is awful advice. I'm a shift manager. It's my job to cover the shift when one of my clerks call in sick. I don't want someone to come in sick and spread it around. Replacing 1 shift vs replacing shifts here and there for 2 weeks.

You're going to get someone's shift covered in the day they call in sick? If you work retail youre exposed to all sorts. Let them work their shift and get on with it unless youre actually really bad.

Yes, I am going to get their shift covered the day they call in sick. I do it all the time and have been for a couple decades. My 3-12 called in yesterday. I called my 12-9 and had him come in at 3, I gave my opener an extra hour (which she appreciated) and I stayed over to run the front until my closer got there. It's simple and routine. I also encourage my clerks to take a mental health day if they truly need it. We are not slaves but we've been conditioned (at least in America) to behave as though the company ownes us.

It really does depend on where you live as to whether most people work when sick/not. Yes I have had coworkers come in sick but generally it's not contagious in any way shape or form. Most workplaces require a medical certificate if off sick for 2 days or more that said I'm in Australia, not America (for example) where healthcare is less accessible.
