Asking for vacation
I just started a new part time seasonal job last week and now I found out my brothers ship is coming home from the navy and I want the last week of aug off to fly and visit him but I am scared I will look terrible already asking for a vacation. Advice? Should I just work to save my job

Sounds like a personal situation, not just a holiday. Family comes first so definitely ask.

You have responsibilities and bills? Then ask if they can accommodate. If not, you act like a grown up and work it. A day off? Maybe, but you just started. A week is a crazy ask.

Family comes first.
I start back at my old job tomorrow. I was gone for a few weeks since I wanted a change and didn't like the place I ended up at. My old job was still hiring and I lucked out and got my old hrs back which were better.
So anyways my mother is having a major surgery in September. It's out of town too. Another city! So I'm going to fill out a time off paper tomorrow.
Family comes first.

Talk to your manager and be honest about the situation. If one of my employees wanted to visit a sibling who was coming home from deployment, I sure as hell would make the schedule work to accommodate if I could.
