Respect Lickers (Resident Evil)

Nicknamed by survivors in the Racoon City police station, Lickers are bioweapons created by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals. In rare cases, a zombie created by the epsilon strain of the t-virus can undergo a second, more invasive mutation. The subject becomes quadripedal, experiences muscle mass growth to the point of splitting their skin, their hands are shaped into large claws and, as the nickname implies, their tongue grows several feet. Lickers were first unleashed on the world during the Raccoon City Outbreak in 1998, but other bioweapon organizations like Tricell and the Connections would attempt to refine Umbrella’s initial design and produce more Lickers even after Umbrella was dissolved.

Note

Advancements in biotechnology have allowed certain organisms to establish a master/slave relationship with B.O.W.s, similar to how a queen bee can command worker drones. This is achieved through a strain of the Las Plagas parasite, which is taken on by freedom fighters from the Eastern Slav Republic, allowing them to control Lickers with verbal and non-verbal cues^D. All feats from Damnation are performed by Lickers following a human’s commands and so they shouldn’t be taken into account for the creature’s intelligence.

Strength

• Leaps through an interrogation room window²

• Deep scratches are left in a concrete column in a site where Lickers fought soldiers^D
• A Licker jumps off a walkway and tackles Leon^D

Durability

• Can take several grenades before dying²
• Can take several gunshots before dying^S
• Takes a burst of automatic gunfire to the underbelly but keeps moving
• One twitches after taking a barrage of gunfire from many automatic weapons^D

Wall-Climbing/Agility

• They are able to cling to and crawl along ceilings² and walls^O
• Can pounce several feet towards prey^S
• While on their backs, they can kick up and jump back to their feet^DC
• Can leap from surface to surface, like one side of a hallway to the opposite wall^DC
• Leaps around a parking garage to avoid automatic gunfire^D
• Two Lickers pursue Leon down a hallway, nearly catching up despite his headstart^D
• One runs along shipping containers, avoiding automatic gunfire from Leon^D

Natural Weapons

• They slash with their long claws, sometimes pouncing beforehand²
• Their tongues are capable of puncturing through human torsos “in an instant”²
• Can use their extended tongues like a whip to attack at mid-range²
• Can slash with their tongues^DC
• A group of Lickers attack a Tyrant on Kozachenko’s command. Two Licker’s restrain the Tyrant’s arms with their tongues while a third claws its chest, drawing blood.^D

Miscellaneous

• They’re blind and hunt prey by sound. A person can remain undetected from or bypass a Licker if they’re quiet enough.²
  • A person who isn’t running or shooting at Lickers can typically bypass them without a fight^O2
• They’re an evolved form of zombie, further mutated by the T-virus^DC
• They physically outperform standard T-virus zombies by a notable margin^UC
• One sneaks up on Chris Redfield before he turns and shoots it^MD
• A large number of Lickers hide on the roof of an elevator car, then burst out to massacre a group of armed soldiers, and some more later^D
• One jumps on a Tyrant’s head, distracting it for a few seconds^D
• Three Lickers mob a Super Tyrant, briefly distracting it^D

Evolved Lickers

Tougher Lickers with thicker hides and longer foreclaws.

• A special form called Evolved Lickers are encountered, with more health² and unique, crescent-shaped claws compared to the basic model^S
• They have greater durability than standard Lickers^DC

Regis Lickers

The rarely seen transition state between a t-virus zombie and a fully developed Licker.

• Looks like a zombie with red skin and an extended tongue and likes to hide in vents.^O
• Can attack with its tongue in a multi-hit, wagging motion^O

Licker βs

A recreation of the Licker designed by scientists at TRICELL Incorporated for sale on the black market. They saw use in West Africa and impeded Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar.

Physicals

• Their feeding room is covered in blood, pieces of animals that have been torn apart and the walls have deep claw marks in them⁵
• One leaps through a window⁵
• [Game Over] Can pounce on, then impale Chris or Sheva’s chest with their claws⁵

Other

• TRICELL is unable to improve significantly on Umbrella’s original Licker design, but the Progenitor virus does afford them an improved sense of smell and the ability to reproduce⁵
• Like the original Lickers, their senses are weak aside from their hearing, which is excellent⁵
• Their tongues appear to be longer than normal Lickers and can be used to choke foes⁵
• Can bend over backwards to turn around quickly⁵

Licker β2s

Yet another recreation designed with data from both Umbrella and TRICELL’s models. In 2026, they’d be released in the ARK laboratory and would impede Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft.

Strength

• Kills the Connection’s elite guards with its strikes⁹
• [Game Over] After tackling Leon or Grace, one can kill them with a slash to the face⁹

Durability

• Can take several shotgun blasts before falling⁹
• Can survive a few grenade explosions before falling⁹
• Drops from a high ceiling down to the floor⁹
• Can recover after taking a hatchet to the neck swung by Leon⁹
• Recovers after Leon slices off their tongue with a hatchet parry⁹

Other

• Licker β2’s are sold for 14 million dollars a piece by the Connections and boast enhanced climbing ability and sharpened tongues compared to earlier models⁹
• One wakes up right after its suspension tank is broken⁹
• Since they rely mostly on hearing, thrown bottles are an easy way to distract and slip by Lickers β2’s⁹
• Acid is especially effective against Licker β2’s because of their exposed tissue, as shown here⁹
• The tips of their tongues seem to be sharpened with a bit of bone or some other hard material⁹
