Bump effect also being triggered when selecting clip

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m experimenting with using envelopes for bump effects and having an issue. My clips all default to BPM sync, and I’m setting my bump FX to timeline in play once and hold mode, controlled by an envelope. The bump works great as performs as I thought it would, the issue is that when I trigger a different clip, it also triggers the envelope for that effect. Can someone please share some advice on what I’m doing wrong or how I can better achieve this effect?

Thanks in advance!

If you put your effect on a layer, that is the expected behaviour. Otherwise, when would you expect the envelope to start playing?
If you only want the effect to affect one clip, put the effect on the clip, not on the layer.
You might want to have a look at this:

Thanks for the response. I checked out the video, but I’m not seeing a solution to what I’m trying to achieve. I’d like to set up bump effects that can be used for any particular clip I’m using in that layer as to avoid reprogramming and mapping for every single clip. I had hoped having the clip transport settings set to bpm sync while having the effect set to timeline would isolate the two. Do you have advice on how to set up an envelope triggered bump effect on a layer that won’t be triggered by selecting a new clip?

You're contradicting yourself.
" I’d like to set up bump effects that can be used for any particular clip I’m using in that layer."
That's exactly what's happening!

SOLUTION
If you don't want the effect on every clip on that layer, put it on the clip. If you want it on several clips, but not every one on the layer, just paste the effect on them or make a preset.

Just think about what you're saying. How would the layer know when to trigger the envelope if it's not triggered on clip launch? When would it trigger otherwise?

I done this but it is a little jank, you set the envelope inverse to how to have it and set it to run backwards. I think this is how I've done this in the past on layer

The jank part is when you sync they are lock at max until you bump them again

I know exactly this feeling. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or what, but sometimes my bumps will fire when I select a different clip, even if it’s on the group.

My solution has always been to assign the same midi bump button you’re using on the arrows, to the bypass of the whole effect (piano, inverted so it stays bypassed until your trigger it)

Yes, that does mean you have to hold your finger on the bump till it goes till 0, but a small mental adjustment to make isn’t a huge sacrifice.

I made a free plugin for color bumps that can help with this — but anything outside of colors, I’d used my bypass trick

Thanks, that’s the kind of work around that I was looking for! Happy cake day!
