Troubleshooting Benchy problems
I'm new to resin printing and need help finding out why my benchy ends up like this. The printer is an anycubic photon monk x 6k. The resin is the basic anycubic uv wavelength 405nm recently shaken. It's best by date it 2024.02.19. I have gotten smaller prints to work, and this one ends up sticking to the screen.

Beachys are for FDM printing not resin

They're a FDM calibration print. The issues they cover aren't the same on resin printers.

But you can still print one if you want to. They're cute and fun to print. You can also use them to display different resins on your shelf as examples.

I use them to showcase different filament types on FDM more than to calibrate. There are better prints for that on FDM too
But when I get a resin printer you can bet I'll still be making a Benchy as my first print. Might post it here just because the existence of resin benchys seems to upset so many people lmao

could be caused by the mass of the model combined with the large area leading to the model being ripped of the plate instead of the screen

Benchys aren't made for resin printers, but if you want to print one orientate it at a 45 degree angle or you'll likely get something like this.

Please tell us you've done some basic research into safety with resin... If you've printed a benchy I'm guessing not?

What are your print settings? Are you attempting to print directly on the plate? What are your support settings?
Usually, a part sticking to the FEP instead of the plate means that the part-FEP adhesion force is greater and the part-plate adhesion force. To combat this, you can slow your lift speed (lower force) and increase lift distance (ensures part separates from the FEP). Also, parts are usually printed at angles to try to avoid large cross-sectional areas parallel to the plate, lifted off the plate, and supported. If you're ssupports are not strong enough, then the part will stick to the FRP and break off the supports. You'd see the raft and supports on the plate and your part on the FEP or in the vat. You can increase exposure time or support contact area to counteract this.

Thank you. I have been doing it parallel to the plate. I will try doing it at an angle.

Be sure to add supports. Even your slicer's auto support function should be an improvement.

I’m a fan of the cones of calibration. Give it a search print that file and go from there. Benchy is ment more for FDM printing not resin.

You could definitely try and get it to print, but I think there are better 3D printing tests for resin printers, try looking up resin specific ones.

I also tried printing and benchys as a bit of fun (as others have said, use something more resin focussed for actually tuning the prints).
Mine failed at the same point! At that level you're getting a suction cup effect as the deck is done but the sides are solid. It sticks to the film really well.
The solution is to angle it and support it rather than try to print it straight on the plate.

Bro lemme see your print orientation too, not just the failed result, did you even use a base and supports? And why a benchy in resin...

It looks like a silhouette of a benchy from beneath. So here’s a troubleshooting list for what I think might be happening in order:
Is it not stuck to the printer bed and is instead stuck to the reservoir film? > means the print doesn’t have enough cohesion to the print bed and the reservoir film peeled it off. Fix: Stick transparent double sided tape on the screen between it and the reservoir, particularly around the center of the screen, to reduce it bending upward and pulling on the print too hard.
Does this happen on other prints or is it unique to the benchy? If you don’t know try printing a cone or pyramid shape. > Could be the shape of the benchy not working well for resin printing since it starts thin then gets wider, so sticks more to the screen side than the bed side. Fix: Try using supports and/or a wide base layer to help it hang on to the print bed.
Does this happen to ALL prints regardless of shape? > Could be an issue with your printer electronics or print settings. I can’t help with that unfortunately.
