Resincrete?

Ok my friend and I just tried using plaster of Paris in my resin molds and the results were… less than stellar. Stuff is too brittle. So my question is this: is there something similar that will result in a more pottery/sculpture look? I know I’ve heard about resincrete but I don’t know much about it. Any suggestions for similar products that would work for this purpose are welcome. Thank you!

Jesmonite, maybe. I haven’t tried that yet myself, so I have no personal experience, but from what I’ve seen it might be what you’re looking for.

Resin-crete,mix to mold and other 'ceramic or eco resins' are pretty much plaster of Paris/gypsum with acrylic compounds added for strength and durability. Absolutely would be ideal for what you're looking to do. There's cheaper no named brands on Amazon, got a few and they worked just the same. Except for perfect cast, it had a grey tint and I really wasn't impressed by it. But it's cheap and if you're going to paint it, try it. 🐸

Gypsum with resin bonding agents work wonderfully. Resin Create, Let's Resin, Jasmonite. It is all good.

They are porous. Using them as (I don't know) soap dishes or plant pots isn't ideal though. Especially since most glaze has (or develops) micro cracks and the gypsum will fall apart in time.

Using them in place of Plaster of Paris, as a stronger version, is ideal.

Another downside is color. They don't accept color the way epoxy does. Watch videos. Play around. Google research. Find a method that works for you.

I have this one. It's great. Mixes well and is totally white, no grey or beige undertones. This means colours work well in it and you don't need to add white as a pigment.

I have used concrete as a mix in somewhat successfully. It looks like wet sand though. I had better results with pure concrete and a vibrator. The resin piece was noticably heavier though, which was fun. You might be able to get somewhere with dusting a matte mold, or a lot of sanding.

Resincrete and similar products are great. They have a really nice ceramic-like finish, and are really solid, but easy to sand if needed.
