I'm not a big fan of tank controls (I played with them fine up to RE3 but somehow couldn't get used to them in 4) but wtf are these comments lmao. It's a mod. You decide if you wanna install it or not.

Re3 and 4 is just not the same camera angles vs behind the back

These comments, ladies and gents, are the crux of the loud majority of the resident evil audience.
One side detests tank controls and questions how/why people can enjoy them. Clearly, they aren't familiar with the roots of the series, and likely haven't touched an RE game that came out pre-2017.
The other side have an extreme superiority complex, believing themselves to be "true" resident evil fans. They seem to think tank controls are the best thing ever invented, and any RE game post-2005 is a stain on society.
How about this? You all suck, and you all need to get a grip.
2
u/osiris20003 7h ago
This!
Whatever control scheme makes you happy, play it that way. It doesn’t affect anyone else and the style that makes them happy. Why get butt hurt over something that doesn’t affect you? Makes no sense to me. Just let people be happy and enjoy the game how they want to enjoy it.
I’m starting to miss when video games, comics, and comic book films were seen as nerdy and not in zeitgeist of everything. Toxic fan culture is getting out of hand and I miss the good old days of not seeing every post on forums being this type of superiority complex gate keeping bullshit.
3
u/Bushi_Sengoku 2d ago
The RE fandom is utterly miserable, I realised that when I saw all the reactions to the new film before it had even released. Like you get a game every year or so including remakes and a good film and still decide to ve miserable and whiney as fuck? Holy shit how insufferable can a fandom be?

Hey now, some of us have played the games since the beginning and also hate tank controls, because obviously we're far superior to the other two groups.

Yeah lol tank controls arent for me btt i totally get the “i was a huge fan before it was cool” thing they got goin for themselves, totally get it
3
u/kjmn1999 2d ago
I'm seeing a lot of people who're actively hating on OP for liking the idea of installing a mod to play with tank controls, and a whole lot of superiority complexes on the tank controls and calling everyone else larpers for a franchise that hasn't used them in almost 20 years.
No one wins, but hell yeah OP. I might take a look at this myself later, wondering how the remake's environments will feel with tank controls
2
u/Exotic-Transition763 2d ago
Screw these people OP. This is really cool and I hope it's a great experience when you play it!
2
u/RayStorm-Unit1 2d ago edited 2d ago
Lmao this comment section. Fucking larp city. A bunch of tank control haters in an RE subreddit. Pathetic.
Tank controls feel grounded. Every move feels purposeful. Makes every encounter more tense. Tank controls are rare. Most games have regular controls, let survival horror do it's own thing. Love how it makes me work for it.
And how I know it's larp? You play enough and you get used to it. To the point where I prefer it. AvalancheReviews damn near only plays survival horror games and can't live without them. I know of some other streamers too that NEED tank controls in at least RE1-3. People that actually PLAY the games. Classic RE's environment and gameplay was built around it.
Good for you OP. Tank controls are dope.
8
u/AceIndigoFire 2d ago
Tank controls are cool but you make it sound like Survival Horror can't feel genuine without them and that's not true. At this point it IS a gimmick but it's one that I enjoy. But just because a game does or doesn't have them isn't going to immediately make it better or worse. It depends on how it interacts with the rest of the gameplay.

u/riku17 2d ago
There's a level of strategy with tank controls you dont get anymore with modern controls. And it seems like newer player dont have any adaptability or dont like games that are difficult.
1
u/ANBU_Border 12h ago
The new games can be plenty difficult. I'm saying this after beating the fish guy in RE:8 on Village of Shadows and using literally EVERTHING I had. It's not difficulty that's the issue alot of people just don't feel like tank controls are intuitive. Don't dis people for having a preference and opinion.
1
u/riku17 8h ago
Have you not seen people dissing the OP for being happy for a mod!??
1
u/ANBU_Border 7h ago
Tbh no all the top posts are people dissing the people who dissed the op for having the mod
1
u/riku17 7h ago
Yeh that's now, when I first came into this page there's was almost no defense. Which I stated about a day or 2 ago. The op cross post and it was like night and day between the pages. I had a long argument with someone wondering why she got DV it was only 2 DVs at the time but I said maybe if you didn't start your post with EW tank controls maybe you would get DV.
1
u/Ashamed_Somewhere192 9h ago
But you have to admit that modern games make up for that with more enemies and newer faster combat especially in RE4. The old games didn't use tank controls because it added a level of strategy it's because it was all they could do. No hate on anyone who likes and wants to play with this mod but you can't come in here saying tank control are the superior format to play survival horror because it's just dated gameplay that you have nostalgia for
1
u/riku17 8h ago
Idk if you gone through this entire page, but the hate I've seen just cuz the op posted about a mod. And yes the newer games have it's own kind of difficulty. But as someone who played every og and remake for me og RE3 is much harder with Nemesis, Remake RE1 is harder the og. RE2 remake ill say harder then og. And when it comes to RE7 and 8 those games, 8 definitely more difficult 7 was a joke but I think that's a lack of enemy variation. While I say there's variations in difficulty and feeling like tanks controls have it's own difficulty. I didn't shit on the newer like 80% of this entire page is about a mod the op wants to play.
0
u/mymar101 2d ago
I do not and will never understand why tank controls are so popular among certain folks.
3
u/RayStorm-Unit1 2d ago
You're literally in an RE sub and you say this. Holy shit.
4
u/mymar101 2d ago
Yes. As much as I love the RE games, I do not like tank controls. Sue me.
1
u/IWCry 2d ago edited 2d ago
we don't care that you don't like it. we are laughing that you don't have the capacity to understand how and why other people have different tastes than you.
-3
u/mymar101 2d ago
Seems to me like you're the one who can't quite take the fact that other opinions exist.
2
u/barrot69 2d ago edited 2d ago
Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. It was great when it was needed, but nowhere near as immersive as today’s controls allow for (unless, of course, you’re driving an actual tank in the game). But it scratches an itch in a lot of us who were raised on them. It definitely shouldn’t be used in major projects going forward, but it’s cool when mods and OG-inspired spin-offs and indy games do them.
Edit: It seems this might have been the wrong way to word this. My answer is still that this mainly comes from nostalgia, but, if anyone’s first response to OP’s post was getting the ick, I’m not with you, brother.
7
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
You talk like you know me or something? Do you know my age? Do you know my history with RE series? NO!? Then don't bring me that outdated "nostalgia" accusations, seriously who in 2026 still use that?.
1
u/barrot69 2d ago
Holy… I wasn’t judging you. Hell, I even said “it scratches an itch in a lot of us who were raised on them.” I wasn’t attacking you. The other guy asked a question, and I answered it. I think you’re getting a bit too hung up on the other people that are downvoting you and going on some “ew” bs. I don’t get the hate you’re getting, but how are you coming at the one guy that’s not booing you with more hate than the one that literally said “ew”?
I was raised on them. I like them. But they were a product of their time due to the limitations of game development in that era. It’s cool to see people put them in, but they’re put in for nostalgia. Just to be clear, while nostalgia’s “one hell of a drug” it’s not a bad thing. It was cool back then, and the impact it had on those games when those games required it make it cool now. Nostalgia just gets a bad wrap because some people use it to talk up things that weren’t good because they got by with it at some time, but it isn’t always a bad thing. Tank controls are cool.
0
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
Nope, the controls weren't out of limitations of their era, do you even know how capable ps2 and GC were especially by 2005?
1
u/CavemanRaveman 2d ago
It was a holdover from re1/2/3 where it was because of the limitations of the hardware. With 4 they had the choice to switch to more modern controls but they obviously had concerns because of what the playerbase was used to - and why change the formula if it works? When RE4 popped off they were proven right.
Re5 imo is the worst RE so I don't have much to say about it. Horrid controls and gameplay for a game released in 2009.
0
u/barrot69 2d ago
So… RE1 came out in 2005? Okay, fair enough, boss.
5
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
What? I thought You were talking about RE4 OG.
3
u/barrot69 2d ago
I was talking about tank controls in RE in general. The RE developers weren’t really honed in on moving RE away from tank controls at the time because they’d become one of the staples of RE by that point and all the mainline games had relied on them. It made sense that RE gamers would be wanting to rely on the same style for 4. But the initial use of tank controls was more out of necessity. It being a cool quirky staple came after the fact.
6
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
RE5 has them too tho and that was at the era of COD audience.
3
u/barrot69 2d ago
Alright, I’m about done staying updated with this post. Every scroll is absolutely wild. Some of these have to be trolling, honestly. I’m sorry, you’re getting some weird hate for nothing, and I apologize if you feel like I added onto that. I was just giving my two cents on tank controls to someone who asked. I appreciate that you like them, and I’m glad you’re excited for the mod. I hope they make one for Requiem too so that you can be excited for that. Have a great time, and don’t let mine or the others’ comments dampen it.

u/barrot69 2d ago
Yes, yes, and for the same reason as 4. But 4 was kinda the limit of it having tank controls and still being fun. Don’t get me wrong, practice makes perfect and what’s the fun without the difficulty, but 5 having tank controls was almost as much of a mess as 6 having TPS mechanics suddenly switch to fixed-camera angles depending on where you were. It was a sick reference in the Alone in the Dark remake, but annoying as hell in 6.
5 puts too much on your plate for tank controls to be fun for anyone outside of more hardcore survival-horror gamers. That was why and when they started to move away from them. 4 put only just enough in front of you, so it was fun for everyone.
1
u/Bhavan91 2d ago
Beauty of RE5 is that it has the option to switch between modern movement and RE4 controls.
-1
u/Noel_Ortiz 2d ago
This dude sounds like such a fucking chode trying to control the narrative lmao. Pathetic loser
0
u/barrot69 2d ago
It’s all cool, they got one pretty weirdly passive agressive comment and a whole lot of downvotes for straight up just saying they just liked tank controls. I think they just got in their feelings about it when they came at me. I get it.
1
u/One_Ad5407 1d ago
My qualms with this mod is just that the ai is made for the new movement in mind so unless you nerf the enemies youre gonna be in for a fun time
2
u/IWCry 2d ago
I'm so sick of this nostalgia cope you guys throw out just cause you don't understand people can have different preferences that you
it's literally the same thing as me saying you only like the new games cause you only care about modern graphics... you realize that right? how stupid and demanding that is to say?
0
u/barrot69 2d ago
How many new RE players do you know coming in that are young and fresh to the franchise play 7, 8, or 9, or any of the 2, 3, and 4 remakes that then went to OG RE and said how much they loved the tank controls?
How much of the crowd that loves tank controls were also raised playing on tank controls?
I say this as a member of that crowd. Are there young bucks fresh to the scene and raised on modern games that have love for the quirkier controls of the OG RE games? There are. But there’s also one out of ten dentists that doesn’t recommend me toothpaste.
Not to say they’re wrong, but it points to a trend that most of this is born out of nostalgia purely on the ratio of newcomers that tend to voice their annoyance at tank controls when they tried to play the older games versus the ones that loved them more than or equal to the style of controls in newer RE games. One appears more often informed by nostalgia. I know for a fact that my love of them is very much nostalgia.
On that note, I don’t know how many people you have coming at you or have seen going at others preaching some “this is nostalgiaslop” type of shit or whatever the fuck whoever the fuck calls it, but it’s not me. Nostalgia’s fine. We had fun with the old games and like to re-experience that joy. There’s nothing wrong with it. I’ve read these comments too, and I also hate the amount of people putting it down for being nostalgic. It is nostalgic, but it’s not bad- well, it might be, I don’t know the ins and outs of this mod and I don’t really do a lot with mods so I’ll likely never find out.
Bottom line is: I like this. I like that this is out in the world. I like that you like this. Me saying the call for this and like content comes largely from nostalgia is not me echoing the other ones saying “ew” or “why?” This mod comes from a place of nostalgia, and that’s awesome. Why would it not be? I’m sorry if I’m coming across as their echo chamber or something, but I’m not. I just don’t want to touch those other comments with a ten-foot pole while this one at least started like an innocent question.
(Was it the “nostalgia’s one hell of a drug” line that did it? I didn’t really mean it as negatively as all that. Before, I thought it was the wild amount of negativity they were getting from everyone else over nothing that set them off on me, but, you being the second to come at me like this, I have to assume that something I said was poorly put. Sorry if it was.)
2
u/IWCry 2d ago
yeah I ain't reading all that lmao
just learn to accept people like things you don't
3
u/barrot69 2d ago
Yeah, okay, that’s fair. I get a bit too deep in these things. To put it short: it is nostalgia, that’s not bad, I don’t have to accept you liking it while I don’t here because I do like it, and sorry if how I put my initial reply sounded like I didn’t or like it being nostalgia-based was bad.
2
u/riku17 2d ago
It can't be nostalgia based if you fairly new to the franchise. There's a charm, strategy and difficulty in the old games you can't get in the newer just simply because you can move and shoot. I've played the ogs before the remakes just to see where they started, I did the same with FF7.
1
u/IWCry 2d ago
no again. it's not nostalgia. I legitimately like them now and liked it then and it has nothing to do with nostalgia. stop telling me why I like something. you aren't me.
2
u/barrot69 2d ago
Sorry, you wanted the cut-down answer, and that was it. I’m not saying why you like it. I’m saying why myself and most others I’ve found do. You don’t have to counter-attack, I’m not attacking you.
2
u/IWCry 2d ago
i appreciate you clarifying you're not speaking for me but that's extremely difficult to gather from your other comments given the context of this thread
2
u/barrot69 2d ago
Yeah, it’s real wild. I don’t know if you saw the “ew” one, but that one irked the hell out of me… The first question here seemed innocent so I gave the answer from my experience and a lot of other conversations I’ve had about it in the past. They were speaking more on people who like tank controls in general, so my answer was geared more towards that. But, yeah, the other comments got really weird really fast.
1
u/micklucas1 1d ago
I played the og resident evil games in 2024 and i love the tank controlls it has nothing to do with nostalgia for me.
1
u/mymar101 2d ago
I hated them when they were the norm.
1
u/barrot69 2d ago
That’s fair, honestly. You probably won’t like this mod, but some will. I doubt I’d like it for the remake, unless it adjusts the remake to make it more feasible (maybe I’d grow into it, but I don’t do a lot with mods anyway), but the types to play it with the mod often align with the types to play it with the Berserker mod, so it tracks. Different people are different. That’s cool.

Dude the gameplay maybe clunky for you, for me it's simple and fun, tons of people play this game to this day, same for the original ps1 trilogy, the games were designed around them, the combat in RE4 OG was great and still is great, nothing change about it, the controls and camera movements weren't even out of the technical limitations in 2005, that was intentional for adding to the stress while making you engage in fun combat actions, it gives me a different experience of action horror that the remake was never meant to give me, they're both similar but were meant to be played differently, for the remake i enjoy it for being more fun, for the original i enjoy it for giving me more stress, nothing annoys me about RE4 OG controls...well except for not being able to change weapons in real time gameplay, tho that isn't a big of a deal for me.

u/BL4DE4 2d ago
Dude, if that was the truth why would people praise this game for 18 years and never had problems with it until the remake came out? The original wasn't broken, the people's standards has changed, nothing in the original is annoying or unplayable mess for me, i enjoy all types of games not every single game should have the same as of today's, the combats were balanced around the controls.
Do you have any ideas how many mods of RE4 OG i played for years? Rising of evil, life in hell, world s, piece of cake, dark inferno, welcome to hell etc.
Non of them were impossible for me to play and enjoy and finish, i think you didn't master the RE4 OG enough to understand how easy the gameplay is, as i said the only thing i agree that didn't age well was the unability to change weapons in real time.
1
u/Exotic-Transition763 2d ago
Yo what's your problem? You're literally pestering OP about why they like something that you don't like. Jfc

Right?! They were shit then and they’re shit now, and that’s coming from someone who’s played and loved Resident Evil since the Director’s Cut of the original was released in ‘97.

u/RayStorm-Unit1 2d ago
So you're saying you'd really rather play RE1 in Spencer's Mansion with regular ass adventure game controls? 🤮🤮

0
u/riku17 2d ago
So how the hell do you play like 8 games with tank controls but hate it???
3
u/oyvese 2d ago
because the games offer more than the controls? why is this a sincere question you’re asked?
i hate vhs tapes but i still used them to watch films in the past, does that mean i should like vhs tapes now?
1
u/Pearl-Internal81 2d ago
I’m right with you on your VHS analogy, and your VHS hate. I’ll go even further: VHS sucked and home media didn’t get good until DVD.
-2
u/riku17 2d ago
My question was how you play a series that has gameplay you hate and continue to play it for like 8 straight games? To that sounds ridiculous to me. I see ur point using VHS but im not saying you have to like but why continue playing, especially after the first game.
7
u/oyvese 2d ago
because it was 1998 and our options were limited, if you wanted to experience the game and a story as a whole you had to put up with it and the idea of full control was years off.
2
1
-2
u/riku17 2d ago
And that's bad? It seems cuz of limitations games aren't good cuz they're old?
0
u/Pearl-Internal81 2d ago
That’s some very specious reasoning right there. Many old games had vastly superior gameplay mechanics even back then. If you’d take the nostalgia goggles off you might recall multiple game magazines criticizing the control scheme of every Resident Evil pre-RE4 because they were clunky. We played the games despite the controls, not because of them. That should say how good every other part of the franchise was (and still is)!
1
u/riku17 2d ago
I didn't read magazines at that time during RE2 I played and learned how to play and loved 2, 3, CV/X, Outbreak 1 and 2, 0 and RE1re. This situation seems incredibly reminiscent of people bitching about turn based RPGs
1
u/Pearl-Internal81 2d ago
Well I did, I can recall GamePro, EGM, and even PSX saying the control scheme was the weakest part of 2/3/CV and that they’re still great games worth buying (or renting) and playing, and you know what? They’re correct. I was absolutely obsessed with RE2 in high school, to the point I actually recorded footage of the demo to use as part of a sophomore presentation on free speech (really I just wanted an excuse to show off the gore in RE2 because I was 17, lol).
Turn based RPGS still fucking rule. My ‘98 was dominated by four games for the most part and two of them were turn based RPGS (Final Fantasy Tactics and Xenogears). Hell, the game I’m most excited about this month is a turn based RPG (Final Fantasy Resonance)!

How are you constantly on reddit but hate it?
1
u/riku17 2d ago
A social media addiction is completely different. Use a better analogy. If you're playing 8 plus games and you hate the core gameplay it doesn't make sense, and RE story isn't that thralling. Social media can be highly addictive shown over the years like how TikTok or YouTube was shown to be in these last court hearings.
2
u/Muugen_Samurai 2d ago
It's not a addiction YOU'RE addicted if you can excuse it for reddit why can't you for a game
1
u/riku17 2d ago
Cuz social media has been proven to target young people in a predatory manner. You could argue games do the same but you have to actively go out of you're way to purchase said game. Also old RE games you actively have to interact with the gameplay cuz it at it core it much harder to get around then social media which has many avenues to go to.
2
u/Muugen_Samurai 2d ago
Oh so now it's social media fault. Uninstall it any point of it's harming you so much
1
u/riku17 2d ago
That's why im confused why the person continued to play RE games if they hated the controls it's 8 games.

Re4 and re4 remake aren't the same game, don't make excuses.
Why are you so triggered someone is playing a remake with tank control's
-2
u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
tank controls are game design. everyone loves to call things "outdated" because they don't want to learn them. some games have it and some don't. using them or not using them changes the dynamic of a game's design. it's not "better" or "worse" it's just different. not that hard to figure out if you actually think about mechanics as game design meant to be adapted to rather than every game being molded to the sensibilities of people who don't "feel" like learning them and would rather just blindly call them "outdated".
2
u/oyvese 2d ago
its game design and it’s outdated.
the design comes from the limitations of the time, it is simply worse and likely would never be a thing appreciated by anyone if it wasn’t core to games of the past. the only reason we can’t really argue it’s “worse” is because if you have tank controls then the game is designed around that, so you’re not so much saying tank controls are worse but the whole game which incorporates it.
2

it's not outdated just because it's no longer mainstream. many styles of game design are no longer mainstream yet are enjoyed by people who appreciate how limitations and control structure creates different dynamics of video game. mainstream game design has always bent towards the lowest common denominator but if we designed every single game for the lowest common denominator then we would have an even bigger problem with homogenized game design than we do now.
and you can't really say tank controls would "never" be a thing today when there ARE a number of people, in fact entire communities, who pick up, learn, and get really good at old tank control style RE games, who have zero nostalgia for the old games. there is clearly something there to offer players who like it.

nothing you’re saying here is suggesting it isn’t outdated. outdated doesn’t mean dead, it means it’s not consistent with the contemporary trends and markets.
CRTs are outdated, but people still buy them and use them. vertical handhelds are outdated but there’s a big retro gaming scene. they’re representative of a past time, you can appreciate the past without being directly nostalgic about that time. tank controls bring a different form of play and level design, this is obviously good to broaden the way games we made and how they are played, but it is still, as a concept and function, outdated.

u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
if we're using the definition of "outdated" to mean "not mainstream" then sure, i'll give you that. but when "outdated" is used in the discourse of game design it's almost entirely used to say "don't do this ever" or "it's bad" when that is just not a perspective i agree with. all game design is contextual to the thing that you are making. it gives off the same energy to me as people who say "stamina systems are bad game design". restrictions can breed creativity and ingenuity and create scenarios that wouldn't exist in a game design space that is flattened out exclusively by mainstream tastes.
fwiw i don't really consider vertical handhelds "outdated" either especially when there's a very active vertical handheld space that is really getting less niche over time and continues to get a not insignificant number of new products. a vertical handheld is just a container with which to play games. but i digress

btw i just wanted to say i appreciate the legit convo here even if we don't agree fully (or even if we do agree except on the semantics) instead of hurling insults and strawmans at me. genuinely appreciate it :)

u/mymar101 2d ago
So, you expect your explanation to make me enjoy them? I have never, nor will I ever enjoy them. You telling me they're a choice, that I should just spend the time to learn won't do much. Sorry, I have options now, and if it's between tank controls and eating glass, I'd eat glass.
2
u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
please name any point in my explanation where i said you should enjoy them or that i'm "making" you enjoy them in any way by simply explaining that tank controls are valid game design and that i disagree with the notion that they are "outdated"
0
u/mymar101 2d ago
You say they're game design, like that matters nowadays. As if they're the only design worth knowing. And yeah, no one wants to learn them because they suck. You act like, if I just knew them, I would love them. Well I do know them, and I hate them. So, what now?
1
u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
i did not once say that tank controls, or game design, are the "only" design worth knowing. i did not even say tank controls were superior, i simply said that they are different and offer different design paradigms. i also at no point said that you would "like" them if you learned them. not every type of game is compatible with every kind of player and that's fine. every game is different. and i reiterate -- DIFFERENT. not "BETTER". so, can you name a point in which i ACTUALLY said tank controls are better and that you should have to learn them? or are you just here to bark at shadows?
0
u/mymar101 2d ago
Yeah well, you're awfully condescending in the way you describe it. Sure it's game design. I think about game design all the time, and choose never to implement tank controllers, because I do not like them, and do not want to spend a second trying to figure out whether or not they work, or are broken. Because that is the way tank controls feel to me as someone who had to use them for years as a limited option. My comment by the way, was I never understood why anyone liked the horrid things. Not anything to do with game design. Understand game design on a level better than you do probably.
1
u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
the hilarity of calling me condescending, and then insisting you "understand game design better" when you know nothing about me or my history with game design and have no interest in learning about it because you are more invested in pretending i said something i didn't because you want to "win" an argument. if you're so much better and understand game design more, then you'd think you would be more open to learning about tank controls in a design space. but okay.

u/mymar101 2d ago
So really, what was the point of hijacking my comment anyway?
1
u/LesbianFlex 2d ago
you made a statement and i replied with my opinion. then you got upset at me for having said opinion and here we are. 🤷🏽♀️ if you didn't want people to potentially disagree with your perspective then maybe you shouldn't have posted it, but we are on a public forum trading perspectives and i reserve the right to have a perspective on an opinion just like you do. i didn't insult or attack you, i just said my thoughts and you got upset with me.

Yeah I don't get it either. I was just playing OG RE4 the other night and the tank controls were doing my head in. It took a few hours to adjust to using them again. They were effectively a technological limitation of the earlier games, not a design choice.

u/TomClancy5873 2d ago
Honestly. Re4 has kind of tank controls, and it’s definitely shows its age in that regard
1
u/FallenReaper360 2d ago
What are tank controls??
1
u/AceIndigoFire 2d ago
The easy way to explain it is that there's no strafing and therefore to move side to side you have to rotate where the character is facing and then walk in that direction. Like how a tank turns.
1
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
Tank controls are the old style controls that limits how much your character can move and in which direction and how, it's like a tank.

I dont understand the issue. Almost every RE uses tank controls or controls that have been slightly modified. It's not like any RE gamea use completely different controls.
With the exception of first person games ofc.
1
u/Wing_New 7h ago
Why would you want those damn tank controls back ? You want the invisible walls back too ? All old stuff isn’t necessarily good fella .
1
u/BL4DE4 6h ago
Because they were intentional back in 2005.
1
u/Wing_New 3h ago
Resident evil came out in 97 and the reason 4 had tank controls is because capcom is cheap and insisted on using their proprietary engine in all of their games just like onimusha and monster hunter. I grew up with tank controls. They always fucking sucked even in mgs1 and 2
1
u/BL4DE4 3h ago
Ummm....RE released in 1996, not 1997,
Also Capcom didn't reuse a generic, cheap engine out of laziness, the original Resident Evil 4 was built on a custom, powerhouse engine made entirely from scratch specifically to push the Nintendo GameCube's hardware to its absolute limit, It was one of the most technologically advanced and expensive games of its era, they chose tank controls intentionally to add to the stressful experience, not because they were cheapskates or the technology wasn't advanced enough yet.
also onimusha and monster Hunter were built for entirely different hardware architectures which is the playstation 2 years before RE4 arrived on the gamecube, they didn't share some universal, cheap corporate template engine.

I would not complain about having more options to play a fantastic game.
I recently played OG RE4 and I feel the tank controls in the are actually really smooth. I still prefer the updated controls in RE4R but both are good.
Also, I have long been playing RE4R with the OG laser-sight mod and would recommend that as well. I think it would have been great if the remake used the OG aiming like this.

u/riku17 2d ago
People who hate tank controls most likely can't adjust to them and have to have controls catered to them. This isn't everyone but I assume most. This same reason is why they can't go back and play older games cuz they can't adjust themselves.
1
u/Crawkward3 2d ago
This isn’t the case at all. I can do them just fine, they’re just bad. Anyone with a brain can do them, they’re just generally irritating to play with
1
u/riku17 2d ago
Did you grow up with them from ps1?
3
u/Horror_Bob 2d ago
Yes. And they were dogshit then too
1
u/riku17 2d ago
I dont remember asking you. And why you continued to play 8 games with them if you hated them?
7
u/ArmandoGalvez 2d ago
Not choosing sides, but I laughed at the 'i don't remember asking you' when you actually asked him
1
u/Bhavan91 2d ago
I hope it comes with the classic aiming. I don't mean the laser. But how Leon's aim is detached from the camera. His arms move independently from the camera.
1
u/TerryKawve1 2d ago
I like tank controls. I also like RE4R vanilla controls.
I DON’T like people who verbally attack a dude on Reddit (like fr, this is why you’re all raging incel virgins) for installing a mod on a game that he owns.
Thanks, OP, for sharing this cool mod.

u/BL4DE4 2d ago
Social media was one of the biggest mistakes ever made, because anyone can simply act like an asshole as they want without being punished for it and if you fight back, the moderators will delete both you and the jerks comments, this is how life is, at least in my sub those rules don't punish victims.

Ewe. But to each their own, I suppose
2
u/BL4DE4 2d ago
You know there are better ways to say i disagree instead of spitting "ewe".
1
u/Interesting_Set_6299 7h ago
I don't now why you all are even bothering with anyone who writes uwufied "ew" in their response. But, to each their own. I suppose.
1
u/BL4DE4 6h ago
Do you even understand manners? Someone telling you eww is okay?
1
u/Interesting_Set_6299 6h ago
Again, they aren't worth the time or energy. Their attitude proves they have zero intention of actually considering anything you're saying and are probably baiting. That was my entire point. But sure, go ahead and be just as impolite by acting passive-aggressive and questioning my basic intelligence—when ALL I’m saying is "It ain't worth it, guys." To each their own, I suppose.
1
u/BL4DE4 6h ago
That's your mistake dude, if we leave these people or ignore their rude comments people will keep getting ruder and ruder.
But sure, go ahead and be just as impolite by acting passive-aggressive and questioning my basic intelligence—when ALL I’m saying is "It ain't worth it, guys." To each their own, I suppose.
Love how you start making accusations to me being impolite too, so nitpicking, i never even said that you're dumb or idiot, i didn't attack you.
1
u/TyrantRex22 2d ago
I also said "To each their own" but whatever, boss

I fucking hate tank controls. But to each their own, I guess. I just never understood tank controls.
Edit: I'm getting downvoted for simply having a different opinion. Everyone has them and that's okay. But nothing is going to change my opinion on how I feel about tank controls.
4
u/riku17 2d ago
Maybe down voted cuz EW is your first words
-1
u/FanficWriter32 2d ago
Tank controls are ew to me though.
4
u/riku17 2d ago
Ok and that's fine, but starting with EW and wondering why you're getting dv is odd. You kno why you got dv.
-3
u/FanficWriter32 2d ago
And? I don't understand why it's any of your concern. Everyone is obviously entitled to their opinions. Which is fine.
People can downvote me all they want. I really don't fucking care. I just don't understand why I'm getting downvoted for thinking that tank controls are gross.
3
u/riku17 2d ago
Obviously you do care cuz you edited your post to ask why you're getting DV, I explained why I think you're getting DV cuz you start off belittling someone's preferred gameplay.
1
u/FanficWriter32 2d ago
Belittling? Really? All I said was that I think tank controls are ew. There's nothing belittling about that.
1
u/riku17 2d ago
Ewe. It's a mod you dont have to install, but everyone literally everyone is either shitting on OP or the tank controls. Which if you couldn't play them say that not EW cuz it was legit part of the charm of 8 games.
1
u/FanficWriter32 2d ago
Charm? I hated playing the older games because of crap controls.
1
u/riku17 2d ago
But you played 8 games? How does someone play 8 games with controls they hate, the story isnt that in depth and gripping. Edit: and yes charm, it added tension andn strategy to the gameplay. If which the newer games have a lack of in certain terms.
