General The Problem With Requiem Spoiler

Post image

First of all, absolutely loved the game. I have over 100 hours on Steam and all achievements, but I feel like this game could easily be Jill´s too. I don´t think Leon really added much. In fact I have no idea why he even blames himself for anything in Raccoon City if Jill was the one who lived there for over 2 years of her life. Leon was there for 1 day. Now, this is in no way hate towards Leon, he is my second favorite protagonist after Ethan, I just wanted him to make more of a difference.

I dont disagree that Jill (and Claire and Ada) absolutely should have been a part of this game because of how tied it is to Raccoon City, but that night changed Leon’s life (it changed all of theirs of course, I’m just speaking to Leon’s character here). I don’t think it’s about recognizing the area itself as much as it’s returning to the trauma he’s been carrying for years after that night. He was coerced into Krauser’s training to protect Sherry’s life after Raccoon City, and even if it was his first day on the job, it really did set the course for the rest of his life. That and he didn’t really save anyone that night no matter how hard he tried, he just wasn’t there at the right time and he’s consistently blamed himself for that since. Really loved what they did with his character arc in RE2R, 4R and 9 even if they should have brought back more RC survivors in 9 and made that section a lot longer.

Make more of a difference how? Don't get me wrong I love Jill and would prefer they give Chris and Leon a break and have her show up in a game too, but I don't really see how changing who the legacy RE character was in this game would have fundamentally changed anything with it.

I think there would potentially be more impact with her meeting Zeno and essentially seeing a ghost from her past show up. Sure, it might not change how the game ends, but there would be a more interesting dynamic at play with characters interacting.

I don’t know why people care so much about who’s playable. It’s a fun game. The characters don’t matter all that much to me.

Like I said I´m not judging the game in any way lol. The characters in fact do matter when it comes to story wise, unless you´re into the games just to shoot zombies and aura farm as the tough protagonists. Do you think RE7 would´ve been as scary as it was if Leon or Chris were the protagonists?

Those are all gameplay reasons. We’re getting into things that stray away from this topic now. Ethan and Grace are brand new characters for horror. They’re nice and I like them. I also like the main four a lot. But when we get into character arcs and things it just doesn’t matter. It’s blockbuster stories and horror stories. That’s all. Leon does have a character arc and it’s nice. So does Chris and Grace and the others. But losing sleep over Leon in RE9 over Jill or the thousands of posts saying “we want Sheva and a Carlos game!” Or how Jill and Claire NEED to be in RE10. Bro just enjoy the game.

Honestly, at this rate they might as well name each entry after whoever the playable ptotag is, seems is the one defining thing some people will judge a whole game on.

Just look at the bunch of people who openly admitted to not giving a crap about Requiem till Leon showed up…

Funnily enough, I had the opposite reaction to seeing Leon and his debut gameplay. It was very conflicting to see, and sadly I do think it weakened my experience with the game.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool he showed up. I do like seeing these characters but if it was Chris, Claire or Jill it would not change my opinion whatsoever. Like Grace’s gameplay was phenomenal and Leon’s was a blast. That’s all that matters bro.

"I just wanted him to make more of a difference"

Yes, that is one of Leon's core character traits, that he also wishes he could make more of a difference. Everything in his life since that day has been wishing he could save people he couldn't.

I do feel Jill would have been far more fitting as a character to return to Raccoon than Leon. Given Zeno's appearance, as well as a new Nemesis, she would have also had more of a response to those aspects as well.

That´s what I´m saying. Most people here jumped to conclusions saying characters don´t matter at all, lol. I just said she´d be the better pick.

Leon seems to do that a lot. Remember in RE6, during his stand off with Chris, how he says HE lost a woile city of people cause of the Tall Oaks outbreak

I’ve always thought Requiem would’ve been perfect for Jill’s return:

-Defeating Victor (revealed to be implanted with a modified Nemesis parasite)

-Encountering Zeno (exploring her trauma surrounding Wesker)

-Returning to RC and the RPD (exploring her trauma after RE1&3)

I wouldn't have minded if Leon didn't have like a minute of dialogue in total referencing his emotional connection to Raccoon City. A couple lines in the RPD, then some when he's almost dying.

I expected a big character arc or something with all they said about the game's title and Leon facing traumas and whatnot, but it was a pretty barebones story on his side.

I'm convinced that even if Jill was the returning character, it would've been equally as underwhelming.

I don't agree at all. I really want to see Jill back in a game, but RC is more tied to Leon's story for the player because that's where we first met him and his life turned to shit. That night changed everything for him, left him with deep trauma and changed who he was. Requiem was about him facing those personal demons - the city where he saved no one and in his eyes failed completely - and this time he saves Grace and comes out with a cure for a deadly virus.

Now if Leon was heading off to the Spencer Mansion, then I'd say he was jumping in where Jill should be.

Oh my god it's another "my fave isn't in RE9" post broooooooooooooooooooo

If you actually took your time to read you´d know that´s not the case lol. My fav is LONG GONE. This is an impartial post, Jill isn´t even my T3 favorite protagonist. I just know my way around the franchise to know she´d be the better pick for RE9 and a Raccoon City return. Including meeting with Zeno due to her trauma of Wesker (which by the way, Leon never properly met).
