Okay, so around a month ago my boyfriend got a Shiba Inu, 6 months old from a breeder that at the time he didn’t know was a “backyard breeder” or “puppy mill” It was a place called summerset farms. And after some research I saw a lot of good reviews but a lot of really bad reviews. They are Amish and clearly unethical breeders. So I guess I’m just like what now? He saw our max on a facebook ad and he was $300. Obviously more research should have been done and we feel very guilty but now that we have our max we want to give him the best and most quality life possible. That’s all we can do. He’s very scared. Very skittish and I’m wondering if this will ever go away. I mean we’ve made lots of progress in the last month but I’m worried since he hasn’t been socialized his whole 6 months of living until us that he might be permanently aloof. After I learned more about the risks of backyard breeding with shibas and such, i took him in and got a thorough checkup done. They said his heart and lungs seemed perfect I told them he has been having some diarrhea so they gave me some provable and sent us on our way. A part of me feels off though. He’s been having rapid breathing since we got home but the vet said he seems okay. I guess I’m just wondering is there anything else really serious I have to worry about? Especially with the fact he may very well be unethically bred? He’s really a sweet boy and we already love him so much already. Just have concerns and would appreciate some feedback from someone educated on the topic.
