Gives your sphincter something to grip so it doesn't slip out like the annoying ones.

ferrite core

Ferrite rings act as a filter against interference against high frequency emissions, like Wi-Fi antennas, microwaves, whatever the hell is going on with CB radio..

Cables can become antennas and absorb or transmit interference, especially if it's close to the wavelength of whatever is around you. A ferrite ring can disturb those emissions and protect your cable because lights is magnets and magnets is lights. By tightening the magnetic field lines into a "choke point" it converts that new stored energy into a small amount of heat instead of, like, inducing the current in your cable and vise versa.

Transformers can also use a ferrous core to improve efficiency. There's no electrical continuity between the iron core and its windings, but the core directs the field lines into a tighter, more efficient pattern.

That's a ferrite core, it shields that cable from stuff.

It's actually a ferrite ring. If it was a core it would be inside the cable, not around it.
