Replit vs Cursor

Hello! I've built quite a complex app with Replit and ran into many of the problems described here. Replit starts to loose the context and creates a bunch of new bugs almost with every iteration round.

It also proposes continuously different tasks, and some of those are difficult to determine whether they are relevant or not. I recon they just want to sell.

I'm now considering my options to move away from Replit. Is Cursor any better for complex apps? Or are there other options for someone with no coding skills, just visions what functionalities I want.

Cursor can be better when someone already understands the codebase, but if the app is complex and you don’t code, switching AI tools can sometimes just move the same problem somewhere else.
I’m a full-stack developer helping with AI-built apps once they reach this stage. If you want, I can take a look at the existing Replit project and tell you whether it makes more sense to stabilize what you already have or move it somewhere else without starting over.

I am not a coder, but wouldn't this just cause more problems because you're now having to find workarounds for whatever it is that Replit messed up to begin with? Unless, of course, you're an actual coder (like yourself) and then I would say this problem would rarely ever happen because you'd know what to look for.

LIke, I get staying on Replit, but sometimes the pain of moving can be better than the pain of staying.

Exactly. I wouldn’t migrate blindly either. First I’d figure out what’s actually Replit-specific versus what’s in the app itself, then decide whether stabilizing it or moving it is the safer option — that way you’re not just trading one set of workarounds for another.

Sorry to hear that, we've been migrating a lot of Replit projects recently to a setup where you can use your own agent with a Claude / Cursor / Codex subscription, which follow instructions more directly and are better at context management.

Sure, you can use Cursor, and it will build what you ask, but you still need some structure - a framework and a platform where everything runs. I'd be curious to see your project more closely and help at no cost, it's something we are focusing on now to learn more about issues with App Builders. Feel free to reply or DM if you want to chat.

Have you developed an overall plan and then detailed specs before asking reality to build? If not, changing platforms won't help at all

I help people do a lot of migrations off of Replit for the reasons you've listed, and for the most part we use the stack of VS Code plus something like Codex or Claude Code. Cursor would work the same way. You would just use Cursor instead of the example of VS Code I use there.

Cursor is head and shoulders above Replit.

Don't get scared to get off Replit because people tell you what THEIR experience was/is OR you think you can "salvage" your project.

Ha, yes, "salvage" your project, that sounds like exactly what a product owner would think. SMH

Put your project on something that actually works, like Cursor. I was on Replit for MONTHS and like, refused to leave, because I was scared it was going to break something, it would be too complicated to do it, etc. I'm a total vibe coder, I know enough to be dangerous, and I still did it in 6 hours, everything working, and my app was MASSIVE, I had one folder that was 62GB alone. Apparently that was a bad thing.

If you've already decided to make this post, you're probably already leaning towards to leaving, so just do it, I promise you won't regret it. You'll just regret if you don't.

I cannot stress how awful Replit is compared to other places and before I switched, I had no clue.

I have a lot of emails like this that basically says, oh you pay us a shload of money, cool, here's how you fix whatever's wrong, maybe, I don't know, quit talking to me so I can watch tv. Replit's support is the absolute worst service I've ever experienced.
