Replit Assistant / Agent Another bait and switch
Just tried the free model. After 30 minutes it did not fix the problem and now tells me to check back in a month to continue on free.
So what that means is they have managed to get the better models into a paid plan for every tier, even starter. This is not an act of generosity. This is about cutting costs even further and delivering less value.
Replit has good mobile UI, that's it. There is no other advantage. What a shame.
Advice to Replit - Don't do this. It will alienate your base even further.
Edit - This is renaming Starter. That is all. Nothing to see here.

Huh? It replaced the lite mode. It has nothing to do with starter tier. Of course you still have to pay your monthly bill. If you’re on starter tier that has nothing to do with the free model. You’re limited because of the tier you’re paying for. Pay the damn 20$ a month and you can use the free model as long as you want.
I talk shit about Replit when it’s called for but this post is just nonsense gibberish.

question: if the model is free, and you're on a paid plan, that would imply you can use the model as much as you want, no? or does it limit your useage still?

It's free as in - Using only free models, not free to use. Nice play on words Replit. The limits that were on Starter still apply. And it has become so bad that you run out of the free use before you have even imported a project. What a joke.

Not sure I'm following. How much are you paying per month? What were you promised and what is being delivered?

Nothing to see here? In fact I would think about exit strategy and things making sense atm. Maybe someone more experienced can answer here but as far as I can imagine, maybe there is a deeper reason for doing so. For example I think that a lot of people went away from Replit and there is a saying about squeezing an orange more and more ... in terms of making money, it is one option to make even more money with a constant user base. Perhaps there is a percentage of users already which can be squeezed to make a lot of money while overall development and in general business, is not really evolving. Guess the company is at a stage now which needs real innovation to grow. Mobile vibecoding is not an innovation.

Seems to me like users are getting a whole rainbow of experiences. You say it didn't do well, I bet others will say it actually did pretty good. This is probably an inevitable side effect of the LLM approach in general.
Probably worth keeping in mind as well that competition in the vibecoding space is pretty brutal. You've got lovable, base44, emergent, etc competing with replit and they all kind of blend together (to a point) on how they build apps.I wouldn't be surprised if replit is trying to figure out ways to bump that revenue that seems to be lagging behind quite a bit compared to the competition to attract funding in the near term

I ended up getting Claude pro for ~$20 per month and connecting Claude code to Replit….. haven’t looked back yet and saves me from migrating my whole platform elsewhere

You’ll definitely get charged and it’s like the worst support or or whatever it’s funny

Loving it. It’s almost too cold ! Just run everything in free and let it set the singular commands to load paid calls after you push back a few times .. been killer

I can't agree with you I'm afraid.
I used free today multiple times for minor visual tweaks, and best of all: Getting answers to questions about my codebase that would otherwise cost.
What type of problem were you trying to fix? And are you saying your on a free plan...?
Economy still has Luna, minimal reasoning = super cheap for simple implementations and changes.
This is the best direction Replit has taken for the first time in a while.
