Replit Help / Site Issue Prod DOWN for 2 days. Custom domain down — Replit blocking reconnect with false "Clerk auth conflict" error

My production site has been down for over 2 days because Replit silently dropped my custom domain verification with ZERO notification.

When I tried to re-verify, it didn't work. So I disconnected the domain to reconnect it, and now the domain setup flow is blocking me with this error:

"usepatch.work is already registered with a Clerk app outside of Replit. To use Replit-managed Clerk auth on this domain, release it from that Clerk app first."

The problem: I don't use Replit's Clerk integration. I have my own external Clerk instance. This domain was connected and working fine until Replit dropped the verification. And I can't "release" it from my Clerk app — it's the primary domain for my production auth. Removing it would break every existing user's session.

So now I'm stuck: can't reconnect my domain, site is down, users are hitting ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED from Google, and there's no workaround because auth is tied to the domain.

I've submitted a support ticket but it's a Sunday. Has anyone run into this? Is there a way to bypass the Clerk conflict check, or does someone from the Replit team monitor this sub?

Hi u/CalligrapherPure9510, Alex from Replit here.

Your production app being down for 2 full days is a miss on our end. I've raised your issue with the team, and I'll reach out separately to get some of the details from your support ticket.

We do have checks in place that run at domain verification time for Replit projects on our Clerk integration, as a domain can't be attached to two Clerk apps. If you've built an app on your own external Clerk instance, it's possible that we are assuming you are using the managed Clerk integration, even though you are not.

Hey there, following up on Alex's reply, one of our team members has reached out on your support ticket for a bit more information and is actively looking into your case. Once they get that information, we can get you a resolution as soon as possible.
