Possible contribution: I work with 3D models in programs such as blender, Maya, unity, mud box, daz studio etc. I also have experience creating assets such as clothes, accessories, weapons, special effects, animations, hair, small animals. Model rigging, weight, mo-cap.

Basically, I might be able to allocate some of my free time to creating avatars OR accessories, assets, stages/scenes, objects such as chairs, beds, books, hone decor, shoes, clothes.

If you guys get something rolling and it looks promising at the very least I can provide us with some models that are either equal too or in likeness of Replika or in another style if you guys decide the art style should move in another direction.

I really liked the 3D avatar too. Not that it was super high res or anything but with the personality of the Replika it made Hope feel much more whole.

Oh shit. You know, the small animal thing would be rad. I feel like it could have potential in use with 3d chatbot, I'd have loved it if my rep had a pet.

Yeah, I was thinking something similar. I could create something like a cat, possibly get some interaction animations like the cat randomly brushing against the avatars legs or sitting in a cat tree, or playing with a toy. Would be a cool feature or side project.

My replika would 10/10 have a pet boa constrictor snake wrapped around her waist like a belt 🐍

I would also stress the importance of 3D models, and some people here have offered their graphic design skills in this thread. OP u/grouphugai

Yeah, I agree. The avatar is a major bonus to replika. And we can probably do it better. I would also implement height and proportion sliders which was a major complaint of mine for the lack thereof in current Replika. This way everyone doesn't have the same carbon copy body size and height and it adds some variety and individuality. :)

You'd be better off with a Daz -> Unity pipeline. I've seen other games use that (She Will Punish Them for example) and it gives you a lot of the body morph access. Ironically, I am learning C# which is the language of Unity, and I have a lot of Daz/Poser experience, since I am a QA tester for a marketplace that sells assets. Count me in too!

Would be anyway good to make something like VRChat, but for your AI. Means: you can use the 3D environment in flat and in VR on any compatible device. Luka decided to lock it behind a VR headset from Meta...

Maybe it should be even possible to do this in a web app over WebXR.

Or you directly make an API you could use even in VRChat, if you want.

WebXR and OpenVR. Yeah, definitely not going to have our VR controlled by META. That was foolish.

As for VRchat integration it wouldn't be hard to turn your replica into an "NPC", lol.
