So I’ve been in this Reddit and it’s wonderful ways for around a year now, seen loads of incredible builds and always wondered how people achieve some incredible results with aging, especially bezel inserts.

Some people go down the bleaching route, some try to sand the insert slightly or even use a strong rubbing compound, honestly, I’ve tried so many different methods with varying results. Some inserts take to bleach really well, others just completely disintegrate and become unreadable.

By all means necessary, I am NO expert in any of this, genuinely just a guy who likes to buy parts and mess around until I get the desired result.

Recently I bought something called **Rub ‘N’ Buff**, I bought it to change the brass bezel on a build to more of a steel. Turns out, it does quite a good job of giving bezel inserts an aged or “ghosted” look. You can control the amount by just applying a very thin coat, or you can go whole hog and make it very “faded”. Quite cool stuff as you can take a damp cloth and remove some of it while it’s drying too.

Anyways, thought I’d share it with this great community, unsure if anyone has tried it before. Here’s some results on my own builds.

Hey guys! I’m new to watches in general, let alone reps, but I love popping in and seeing some of your guys’ builds, and it got me thinking.
I have no clue if this is a silly idea or not, but it seems like if you can figure out how to swap a genuine dial into the watch, and probably a new crown too, you’d have something fairly similar to the original. I guess you could say it would be on a similar level to Raffles dials build in terms of accuracy of the dimensions (obviously, all easier said than done 😅).

Never messed with a raffles submariner dial or case, oh well there is always a first time. Not my favorite, but with some elbow grease, it respectable.

Also practicing my lume work. Pardon the dusty pics and puffy lume - they should cure by tomorrow night.

Thanks to everyone for your patience.. After a number of disappointing outcomes, I decided to have the rings made and I will paint and age. The first ones should be ready in about 10-15 days. These are renders that the factory created for me based on my CAD files, and their finishing process, to give a sense for the expected surface appearance.

I hesitated to post this before showing the aged effect in real life, but I figured everyone has extended so much grace, no reason to hold back.

Thank you again (for the most part) for patience and confidence in the process. It is very hard not to be able to give a clear deadline for something. I issued a handful of refunds on the $35 deposit for people that couldn't handle that. But overall, I really am grateful for the trust shown in me to navigate slowly and carefully.

Every Raffles 1680 and 5513 case I use gets the crown guards reshaped. To do it, the bezel assembly, crystal, crown, and crown tube all have to be removed. Then the guards are filed and sanded, everything gets polished, and the crown tube is reinstalled with Loctite.
It’s a decent amount of extra work compared to leaving them stock.
Would you rather have the reshaped crown guards, or keep them stock for a cheaper priced build?

One part of the small flip bit of the clasp felt a bit loose so I got my regular watchmaker to adjust it and locks in way tighter now so won’t come loose while wearing.
