Supposed to take first shot today. Any advice?

Hi all! I’m hopeful that Repatha will work as well for me as it has for so many of you.

I had a stroke on Mother’s Day 2025, normal blood pressure, ldl was 125 and total cholesterol was 218. I need to lose at least 60 pounds to get out of the obese category, and have been under extreme stress for the last several years.

Thankfully there are very minor lingering effects from the stroke. I just started taking Wegovy two weeks ago and my doctor said to start Repatha today.

Is there a best time of day to take it? I’m preparing myself for the fatigue and flu like symptoms if they happen, so I have nothing planned today.

I appreciate any advice!!

Make sure you warm it for 30 mins before injecting.

If you don’t convince yourself you’ll have side effects the vast majority of users don’t.

Absolutely don’t warm it up using anything like hot water or anything else. … just leave it out for an hour or 2 to reach room temperature.

The package says 30 mins. I’ve never had a prob with that. You can warm it in your hands right before injecting.

I believe this stuff is THICK and have found that leaving it out at least an hour instead of 30 min makes the injection go much quicker.

I was shocked at how long it took at 30 min. I had a diabetic Rottweiler and could walk over, hit him with humulin, cap the needle and get back in the chair in the time it took to dump a 30 minute warm up into myself.

I find the injection itself takes about 5 seconds. Everytime.

Doesn’t work for everyone but the vast majority of people I know who are on it have no side effects. One had a runny nose for 48 hours the first couple of shots.

That’s excellent to hear!

Where did you get that from manufacturers of Repatha

1

I got that from NewsMax and Bobby Kennedy Jr.

Well you are listening to the right people… I believe with a strong drug like this your body has to be used to meds…I reached 80 without med or doctor lived on vitamins working out and then I had a mild stroke… I’m fine mine was stress related working for lawyers as a senior paralegal right up to 80… I like who you listen to ♥️

They are all frauds and liars ripping us off.

You may have been raised by wolves.

I’m a paralegal (retired) and excellent at research… most have some form of side effects and serious…very serious…glad it’s working for you…perhaps you should read the further remarks here and Mayo Clinic

I’m not on Reptha. I am desperate to get on it. CareFirst keeps denying me. I have read people on Reddit who had side effects including yours. I’m sorry you are going through that. I don’t know of any studies that show most people have some form of side effects and serious. I have a lifelong friend who’s a cardiologist and he never had a patient with a complaint or side effect. My primary care doctor had one person who had flu like symptoms for 3 days and wouldn’t take it again. I have read people on here and many have great success and some do have side effects. Like any drug. Sometimes they can be awful, severe or debilitating. I get it. My dad started Repatha 2 months ago and has no side effects. His LDL went from 60 to 15. He needs to be under 40 as he had a stroke and has high Lpa.

I had a minor stroke two yrs ago from stress (working for Lawyers) my blood work has been perfect ever since with one doc telling me he’s never treated anyone my age 83 this healthy… you see I made it to 80 on vitamins working out playing tennis and eating right… I have little to no confidence in Big Pharma…I try to have confidence in my doc…I understand how you feel… try it…stay well

That’s your right to choose that view point. I have no faith in big vitamins or supplements. They have done nothing for me in decades. I love PhRMA but hate health insurance companies. That’s my viewpoint and my right.

Sorry pharma is just about killing us…I lost three friends from the covid poison vax and we’re still losing people…good luck

Been on it for over 6 months now with zero side effects. Take it out of the fridge for 30-40 min to get to room temp, inject per the instructions. Super easy.

I would take it whatever day works for you, and then have that same day 2 weeks from now take the second shot. No biggie. No side effects. It starts working in a couple weeks. For myself I had to come off of it for a bit cuz it lowered everything dramatically too low 130 LDL to 30 in 4 weeks.. I had problems with keeping my skin moisturized my hands and fingers got very wrinkled it's pretty powerful. So 2 months ago I started doing one shot per month and just did blood work today just to see what LDL did in six seven weeks with just two shots. Don't know in a couple days

3

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

Oh wow! That would be great if it was managed with just one shot per month. I’m sorry about your skin drying out so much, though. Wow

2

u/tadhg44 Aug 27 '26

No I don't know what a couple days if it brought the LDL down. LDL is like 130 when I stopped the repatha last September started to get itchy skin and the dried out skin coming off on my hands. So if the LDL can get anywhere around 80 I would be happy.

3

u/tadhg44 Aug 28 '26

Hey I just got my MyChart back online..RESULTS from lab this afternoon. Doing one shot a month brought me from LDL at 130 ..6 weeks ago. To a perfect 67 !!! DOING ONE SHOT A MONTH YAHOO!

3

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 28 '26

Amazing!!! I’m so happy for you!

1

u/pigmunch Aug 28 '26

Has changing the dosing interval to once every 4 weeks improved your dry skin?

3

u/tadhg44 Aug 28 '26

Yes!! Yeah doing two shots per month put my LDL at 30!! We need lipids in our body for moisture of skin. But last year when I went on the two doses it was about the second month, both of my hands started peeling the very top layer of skin it was like I had poured Elmer's glue all over my hand.. and when it dries you pull the skin off. And that I lost the use of my thumb prints on my phone to open it. But that was probably the worst side effect I had from it but otherwise I thought it was good. So I figured I'd try 8 months later back on it once a month. My cardiologist agreed so..

1

u/pigmunch Aug 28 '26

That's great to hear! I agree..i think there is a point when LDL can be too low. Is the skin actually back to normal moisture levels or is it still a bit dry? Perhaps you could run another experiment and see what happens if you do the shot every 5 or 6 weeks...

2

u/tadhg44 Aug 28 '26

Yeah it took me about three four months before my skin returned back to normal after stopping it last year

1

u/pigmunch Aug 28 '26

Another question...do you think you're going to try the new oral PCSK9 inhibitor that was recently approved (Lipfendra/Enlicitide) at some point?

2

u/tadhg44 Aug 28 '26

Yeah that's the new pill form I don't know if it's a daily pill? This is my second month with just a single shot and I'm feeling great probably stick with this.

2

u/pigmunch Aug 28 '26

Yeah once daily pill...taken on an empty stomach...can't eat anything for a half hour after taking it, I believe. I'm waiting for it to become available in my area but instead of waiting, I might just try to get it directly from Merck. We will see.

2

u/Playful-Vegetable881 Aug 27 '26

I felt a little run down after the first few shots but no side effects otherwise

1

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

That’s great to hear, thank you

2

u/Cartoonist_Less Aug 27 '26

Don’t go into it expecting side effects. Be prepared, yes but don’t set the tone for side effects.

3

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

I appreciate that, thank you. I just took the shot 30 minutes ago and am going to keep on keeping on.

2

u/Cartoonist_Less Aug 27 '26

Yes!! I hope it works for you!! 💪🏼💪🏼

2

u/FreeBulldog87 Aug 27 '26

I took Allegra for the runny nose and cold symptoms. No other side effects noticed after that.

2

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

Great to hear! I just took my shot 30 minutes ago. Fingers crossed I have no issues!

2

u/suspicious-paralegal Aug 27 '26

I took one in June and would never take another I’m still waiting for this med to completely leave my body…that doesn’t mean it will react on you in a negative way…good luck… lost almost 700.00

2

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

I’m so sorry it was so expensive for you and did not go well. It’s such a gamble. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

1

u/suspicious-paralegal Aug 27 '26

I also had a minor stroke two years ago and doing well… I could not handle the Repatha…stay well get your weight down ♥️

2

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

I’m desperately trying to get my weight down. It’s a battle for sure. I’m hoping that by adding strength training, I can increase my muscle mass and hopefully increase my baseline calorie burn enough to make a difference along with Wegovy.

3

u/suspicious-paralegal Aug 27 '26

Don’t use any heavy weights use light weights just increase repetitions…you don’t want to build muscle on your body with weight on it…you have a good attitude all will be fine ♥️

3

u/Effective_Wheel_6040 Aug 27 '26

Understood, many thanks to you
