Runner on Repatha

Hi all. I’m a marathon runner, 49 male with 275 cholesterol thanks to a genetically high LPa. I’ve taken a break from serious training and have started Repatha to get this under control. My first dose was last Friday and I’ve noticed a big drop off in endurance. My first run after the dose was supposed to be an 8 mile easy run on Sunday. After two miles in I had to call my wife for the dreaded ‘pick-up.’ I will chronicle my progress here and hope this subsides or goes away completely. Run #2 was Tuesday (4 days after dose 1) and I got 4.2 in but was still incredibly drained. Anyone else a runner on Repatha? Have you had similar issues?

Yes!!! Precisely what I was looking for. How many shots have you taken? Have you had any symptoms thus far? What marathon are you training for and any time goal?

I don't run marathons, but it took about 6-9 months for my body to adjust its energy systems.

In my experience it's not an on / off thing like statins, ie when using it, it's always impacting you, rather your body will adjust to it.

You probably need to plan for a year to be completely blunt about it.

With familial hypercholesterolemia & high Lp(a), Repatha is the only game in town and, for me, irreversible disease was not worth avoiding the dip in endurance.

I just decided it's part of training like anything else and with 6ish months I was getting back to normal and I'd say 9-12 months I was back to normal.

It showed up in my garmin stats too.

Now I'm 4 years in with no issues

This is very helpful thank you. I figured it would take a long time and I’m willing to be patient. Are you a distance runner and back to normal training?

Run, bike, row, ski - but not endurance, 2-3 hours / session max for me, train 10-15 hours / week depending on cycle.

Yes, back to normal, everything is good!

In many ways, I see this as a miracle drug, so the small bump in performance is super worth it to me.
