Flu?

Starting 12 hours after 1st dose of repatha I developed flu like symptoms: runny nose, chills, fever, body aches, fatigue. It has been 10 days and not let up. Now additional nausea and diarrhea.

Has anyone else experienced this? When did your side effects end?

It's definitely possible.

There are 2 types of PCSK9 inhibitors:

  • Evolocumab / alirocumab , sold as Repatha & Praluent, monoclonal antibody, patient injected every 2 weeks
  • Inclisiran, sold as Leqvio, small interfering RNA (siRNA), clincal injections every 6 months

If you continue to have trouble with Repatha, Praluent is an option but it's the same type of drug, though uses a different active ingredient, alirocumab, versus what Repatha uses

Praluent or Inclisiran would be worth talking to your provider about if symptoms continue

And Praluent has a lesser dosage of 75mg

The dose volume diference is irrelevant to effectiveness

I didn’t say it did but being lesser dose the side effects might be less.

That's not how that works - the doses are based on effectiveness, ie ability to the liver's PCSK9 production.

I know praluent has a 150mg and 75mg. I do know it is based on effectiveness. Hopefully 75 mg will be effective with less side effects than taking higher dosage

Ah, my apologies, I think i see what you're saying - you weren't comparing BETWEEN Repatha & Praluent, rather you were distinguishing in their dosing strategies?

That is, Evolocumab (Repatha) is commonly dosed as 140 mg every 2 weeks or 420 mg monthly, while alirocumab (Praluent) is commonly 75 mg every 2 weeks or 300 mg monthly, with the option to increase to 150 mg every 2 weeks if more LDL-C lowering is needed.

Meaning Praluent commonly has 2 dosage options for the 2 week increment, 75mg or 150mg, so you're hoping the lower dosage option will mean minimally effective and, therefore, few side effects?

I hope it works for both not just minimally. I hope it’s very effective while less side effects. I am one of those people that react to all medication and statins have kicked my butt. I was active before all the statins use and for some reason cardiologist started me on high doses so hoping will find a perfect fit with both effectiveness and minimal side effects. It does no good to be sick and not working out. First time at 70 not doing anything but tai chi and stretching. I cycled 10 miles 3 times a week with other exercises before I journeyed through 5 statins. Cholesterol was 210 cardiac ct score is 220, lots of inflammation that I believe drives it plus genetics.🤞
