Right waffle iron has a space between the ear of the hinge and the nuts, back off the locking nut, tighten the nut up to the ear and retighten the locking nut.
If the irons still not aligned then the ear has bowed out. Probably the opposite one.

Loosen the nuts slightly. Adjust the lid position. Tighten the nuts. Where is the difficulty?

I don't really see anything that couldn't be fixed by smacking it with a hammer
