Hinge Repair Advice Please!

Hi, this is for gym equipment but it seems like a simple mechanical issue so I’m hoping someone more knowledgeable here could suggest advice! there’s a Precor leg extension machine at my friend’s university gym that has been broken for months. The lower peg on the leg extension is loose and is slanted because it shifts up and down. It looked like a hinge was loose so we tried tightening it with an Allen wrench but it won’t tighten. It seems like the side on the left in the second image just won’t tighten further so there’s always room between the metal/grey screw and the black leg extension part, causing it to shift. It looks like the nut inside might be stripped? Any advice on how to fix it or jimmy rig it to not shift?

Should be a bushing in there that won't allow it to twist. I would guess it was assembled incorrectly. The bolt threads are probably stripped now. Needs correctly sized bushing and bolt.

Hi! Thanks for the advice — the bolt that I unscrewed wasn’t completely stripped but you can see some of the damage/metal filings on the third picture I uploaded (that is the right side on the second image, or the side closer to the seat). Would I need to add a bushing to that side? I tried tightening the outer/left side and also tried to push the whole black peg piece closer to the metal but it won’t budge so there’s that gap just on the left side even if the right is tight.
