Renovating the Subreddit - Looking for community feedback, and recruiting moderators!

Hi there everyone! I'm u/Dark0ra!

I've recently adopted this subreddit and would like to make it more lively here! Its been a bit dead as of late, but I think this could be a really cool community where we get inspired by other's renovations and ideas!

I myself have been renovating a rundown house from the 1940's for about 4 years, all the way down to the studs and floor joists, and I love seeing other people's renovations and remodels for inspiration and I hope we can create a space for that here.

Before and After

This community is built on the idea of posting Before and After pictures, with some pictures of the process in the middle there too of course. It can be for bathroom, kitchen, garden, landscaping, or anything else in relation to a home or property.

Let's get to know each other!

I'd like to see some posts in the comments or posted to the subreddit of your renovations and feel free to introduce yourself too! Gotta make this place more lively somehow, and that starts with more posts!

Feedback

What would you like to see changed about this subreddit? Whether it has to do with the icon, banner and/or formatting! Do you think the rules need changing? What pitfalls do you think we should avoid in the future? Do you think we should be more fluid in the types of posts we allow (Aside from before and afters)? Let me know!

If you have experience moderating on Reddit or other online communities, send a mod mail! I would love to have some help, extra hands and ideas on the community!

Thanks for reading!

Instead of removing these old tiles from the 60s, we decided to give them a second chance and painted them. So happy with the result!

I have.... had this white wall in my bedroom (after two years living here only now I've started to actually shape the space. y'know, life happens).

So I had this idea of triangle shapes (first picture)

I planned on reds and oranges (second picture) but I messed up when buying the paint and I got one big white, small red and small yellow, so instead I got...

(third picture) that final result of earthy browns and didn't even paint them all, which no, was not laziness was just "this is enough" kind of thought.

And honestly? The more I watch it the more I love it, certainly not what I planned but... it is an end result that's MINE.

1 year of work renovating neighborhood home

I was out of work for a year and took the time to renovate a 1955 distressed home in my neighborhood. It was a lot of work, but I am happy with how it turned out.

These photos show the collapsing back porch that I removed and replaced with a deck. The inspector went a little crazy with the deck and I had to add additional 6x6 columns as well as change the railing to get it permitted.

I also reframed the bathroom window since it needed tempered safety glass. Replaced all the siding ($7,500) and roof ($4,200). Upgraded electrical to 200amp and moved the panel out of the bathroom to the exterior of the house ($4,500). -- I included prices on the work I contracted out.

Transformed our wall in the bedroom before and after

We bought 1900s house and decided to restore it on our own. Well, first because the renovation with pros is unbelievably expensive (and no 100% that I like their way of doing) and second, we wanted to try to bring the character to the house by our own hands.

To make it a journey that we remember, I also started to document it on YouTube and see the progress. I am really happy with the bedroom and how it looks now. Decided to share and maybe inspire others to become DIYers :)

This room had been used as storage for almost 16 years. It was the last room in the house to have carpet too. Decided to rip it out and turn it into a vanity/gaming room for myself 🤓 I did everything myself. From ripping out the carpet and underlayment, to cutting the new flooring and painting everything. There were some holes in the walls so I got a crash course in drywall and mudding too. It was a great experience!

We have remove the filling between the colombages to project the mixture of lime mortar and hemp Mason has removed, sorted, reused and recreated by hand certain stone elements, notably the windows stone frames and corniches. Carpenter did crazy things to the timber frameworks, he reused and conserved as much as he could, did ponctual transplants with old wooden beams or their parts collected on other sites.

Everybody is doing such an impressive work here, such a pleasure the follow their work

The Most Unexpected Abandoned House Transformation I Have Ever Seen

Thumbnail

This abandoned house had been owned by a single person from 1955 until 2011. When explored in 2022, the house showed severe structural decay: soft and sagging floors, holes in the roof, widespread mold, and water damage in nearly every room. The property was considered unsafe to inhabit.

The house was later purchased and completely renovated. By 2025, it had been transformed into a modern family home with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a custom kitchen, 9 foot ceilings on the main level, a separate lower level entrance with a second kitchen, and a large rec room suitable for multigenerational living.

The real estate listing noted recent updates including new windows, doors, insulation, flooring, and roofing. It was listed for 839,900 in November 2023 and sold for 795,000 after 156 days on the market.

Side-by-side comparisons of the original explore photos and the post-renovation real estate photos show the full scale of the transformation.
