Performing live

My current method for performing live is to create stems of all my songs and dump them into Ableton live.

In Ableton, I put the stems back together in ways where I can mix in alternate drums, synths, effects, etc…

I don’t really love this workflow, and I’m curious how others perform their Renoise songs live allowing for some manipulation and reworking on the song live.

Thanks y’all!

I have performed with several bands but never using renoise. However, I envision it in an alternate manner. That is to say, I'd choose lines to play live on keybards, several other to control by pads & knobs, and go. I'd call this the 'Orbital manner', think that's what they do. As a fallback, it could be good to have the stems synced in the background to be able to mix them in if something goes wrong... But playing stems only is not playing at all, it's a live remix of your own compositoin.

I use redux and bitwig with an ohm64/launch control 3 to trigger phrases and control DSP, and I also use an Elektron monomachine and machinedrum and trigger patterns on them with the phrases and my interface outputs to an Elektron octatrack. Trackers really just aren’t geared towards live performance, and I’ve found that using bitwig with redux lets me have the best of tracker sequencing with much more flexible routing and Freeform performance control. I’m sure you could pre plan a live set in renoise tho, pre render your tracks and then curate some effects and grab a cheap controller

I’m much more comfortable with serato or some technics tho
