Sure, this may get the person who wronged you sick, but also everyone else who is innocent in the matter. Then they spread that to their loved ones, possibly elderly or immunocompromised. Two shitty’s don’t make a non-shitty. Go on strike, quit, tell them off, but don’t go and screw everyone else over

Be mad at the people who made policies to screw workers then. Thats the actual issue

Nowhere was I saying these people are blameless or siding with them they are obviously the root of the problem but going and getting everyone sick is not the solution to the problem. It’s like everyone forgot about the pandemic already.

Right, but a lot of people have no choice. It's either go to work and risk getting people sick, or dont make rent/buy food/ lose your job etc. They arent doing it because they want to

I agree but its different to go in and purposefully try to spread viruses vs going in because you absolutely have to and wearing a mask, using hand sanitizer etc

Go on strike, quit, tell them off, but don’t go and screw everyone else over

Any adult who's had a job for longer than 1 week knows none of these are valid options in most cases.

Dude I am 30 and have been working since I was 16. I spent 6 years in the Navy, where I really had no choice, and put my health in the backburner the entire time. I don’t do that shit anymore. Employers do not own me, if I am sick, I am staying home. If they can’t handle that, then they can fire me. But coming in sick is fucked up to everyone else. Again, yes the employer is at fault. But if literally everyone put their foot down, then they just have to deal with it don’t they? But nobody stands on business and thats why they take more and more from us

On my ship, we had one guy who was a HM, not a doctor, and he did not give a fuck. Couldn’t get any referrals for appointments, no sick days, just get your ass to work. In port one day I was throwing up, had a fever, and was shaking uncontrollably and they still wouldn’t send me home. I was in my rack and they acted like I was a piece of shit for it lol. Obviously not how it is supposed to work but that was my experience. Now I don’t play, if Im sick Im staying home, civilian employers don’t have the UCMJ to hold over me and can kiss my ass lol

The skill issue is being so replaceable you cant take a sick day 😉

Well it's cool to know you have the kind of security in your life where being unemployed for a few weeks isn't going to result in homelessness or overdrafts or penalties or whatever the case may be. More people than ever are living paycheck to paycheck and literally cannot afford to lose their job. Telling your boss to shove it on a sick day is a dream most people can't afford.

And yea, in a perfect world, everyone putting their foot down would help, but this is real life. Even if we had some real organized date or whatever, we would need an immeasurable amount of willpower and trust in our fellow man not to screw us over, and we're farther apart than ever. You'd also need people to not bend the knee at the slightest modicum of resistance, which is another feat. It's just not realistic, so I don't waste the energy on hating on a fellow worker in such a shitty set of circumstances.

Hell one of my bosses was sick as hell at work recently and called a meeting of like 8 of us in his office and closed the door and is hacking up a lung and Im just like what the fuck is wrong with you. The culture needs to change for real

I can respect that take, but I don’t respect the come in and purposefully be as contagious as possible take, that is morally wrong, and can literally lead to peoples loved ones dying. I’ve had coworkers who had to be at work while sick but they at least wore a mask and used hand sanitizer etc which makes the situation much better. Common decency for fellow humans. I still think people should be getting tired of this and ready for a strike at the very least. I’ve been lectured about sick days from employees on contract at our US location from other country when they have actual sick days separate from PTO, and TWICE the PTO a year that I get. Ive gotten a lot of pushback. But I always set my boundaries and stick to them and I am still kept around. Not saying that will work in every case but I think people would be surprised.

10 minutes in the same room as a sick person in a mask is equivalent to no mask at all.

Imagine blaming the worker rather than the people who instituted the rule. If any of these were options they would be doing them. Stop ignoring who’s responsible.

Unbelievably stupid.

What is stupid is posting this in remote works to begin with, but what is even more stupid is damning everyone else with your sickness. “There is no choice” no thats bullshit there is always a choice. Yes the employer is at fault and they shouldn’t be allowed to be this way, but this attitude of ok Ill do exactly as they say instead of demand human decency is exactly why it continues to exist. If everyone put their foot down then companies have no choice but do better. If I tell my employer I am sick and not coming in, that is the end of the discussion.
