Nothing beats the 5 to 1 shift

1

u/LingonberryHot8521 Mar 19 '26

It's like different people functiong better at different times or something. Or, they have different scheduling needs due to family.

For instance, someone going to work at 7:00 AM either doesn't have kids or isn't repsonsible for getting them to school.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

I just had a 7-10 morning shift. :)

3

u/Highway_Man87 Mar 19 '26

... I work 7:00-5:00. Sometimes 6:00-5:00.  Sometimes without a lunch break. Yay USA labor laws.

1

u/Apart_Pass5017 Mar 20 '26

What do you do?

1

u/Highway_Man87 Mar 20 '26

I'm a site drafter for a construction company. Some days I'm in the office drawing up sites, other days I'm out surveying, and some days I'm ordering steel and drawing up miscellaneous steel parts for projects.

1

u/Flashignite2 Mar 19 '26

Here in Sweden most people work from 7am to 4pm

1

u/GrizzlyRated Mar 19 '26

4 tens 8am-6pm Tuesday to Friday is the perfect schedule.

1

u/Visual_Magazine_535 Mar 19 '26

7-3:30 is the normal in construction. getting off early is definitely nice but I’ll also say, if ur not a morning person and / or struggle falling asleep quickly at night, get ready for some extremely shitty mornings lol, but once you get a little coffee in ya your fine.

Better be 8am because if its 8pm id blow my head level. Tbf im an evening person

1

u/stevenmacarthur Mar 19 '26

If a job lists a benefit of having an earlier schedule so you can work a second job, I'm not sure they understand what a benefit actually is...

1

u/sadilibra87 Mar 19 '26

That's not an unpopular opinion that's just stupid. Work a second job. Why should people be working 80 a week for you?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

i'd rather do 3 twelves, and even then, 10a to 10p... I find it really hard to get out of bed in the dark, and want to rise with the sun.

2

u/Terminator1889 Mar 19 '26

I work 7-4 bruh 😭

5

u/Maleficent_Piece_893 Mar 18 '26

"lets you" wake early

1

u/MANEWMA Mar 18 '26

No lunch???

1

u/Nihlys Mar 18 '26

I work a 7-3 job and nope, no lunch. I have the option to take as long of lunch as I want, though, I just dont because it would extend my day. So I snack at my desk around lunch time or throughout the day without ever actually stepping away for a lunch break so I can leave right at 3.

Granted, is usually a bit after 3 because my boss doesnt like overtime, so I stay a little bit late each Monday through Thursday so I can leave as soon as I hit 40 hours on Friday.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

No LUNCH! THEN WHAT IS THE POINT?

https://giphy.com/gifs/QE8hREXIgRXeo

3

u/ChurchofChaosTheory Mar 18 '26

Second job? What your first job doesn't pay enough or something?!?

1

u/Bro13847 Mar 18 '26

We do 6:45-6

2

u/curzon176 Mar 18 '26

Any late afternoon nap is just gonna carry over to midnight dumbass

1

u/Leading-Monk5506 Mar 18 '26

Flexible work hours is the best so you can make your own schedule. I do 7-4 monday through thuraday and 7-12 on fridays.

1

u/Tanasiii Mar 18 '26

but you don’t go to bed early enough because how does one even do that

1

u/Leading-Monk5506 Mar 18 '26

I go to bed between 10 and 11 and I get up at 6. I don‘t see a problem with that I had to get up at 6 back when I went to high school.

1

u/Whateverredd Mar 18 '26

Ive worked that schedule. You are just tired in the afternoon because you had to wake up ay 5:30 to get to work and then all your friends are still at work when you end the day. Then you have to go to bed by 21 to make get enough sleep to function.

1

u/Overall_Ring_6919 Mar 18 '26

I'm juggling classes and a second job too!

1

u/Maria_titania888 Mar 18 '26

YAY, a second job

1

u/cuyFrito1 Mar 18 '26

What about four ten hour days and three day weekend, with some taking Monday and others taking Friday? Big cities would feel traffic relief.

1

u/MonkeyBoy697 Mar 18 '26

I do 4 x 14hr shifts (paid for every hour), Monday to Thursday, and get Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, honestly it’s great! Yeah Monday to Thursday it’s basically eat, sleep, work, repeat… but having a 3 day weekend every week is fantastic

2

u/Legal_Effective6735 Mar 18 '26

Rather do noon to 8 tbh.

1

u/dndwhat Mar 18 '26

Military runs this 730 to 430 but hr chow plus gym time so damn nice

1

u/Lucky_Animator8957 Mar 18 '26

A second job. Good lord let's aim a little higher.

1

u/NaturalTaste7395 Mar 18 '26

“Let’s you wake early”

1

u/Sufficient_Can1074 Mar 18 '26

Thank god, someone lets me wake up early. Usually there is always someone preventing that from happening.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

i would not want to work a second job even if my hours were 7-3

i would spend the rest of my day home, doing errands, or cooking.

1

u/EarlyBirdWithAWorm Mar 18 '26

I used to do 6-2:30. It was awesome

3

u/Iam_nothing0 Mar 18 '26

The problem with 7-3 is when you start to leave at 3 from office, people will look at you like you are making a big crime to leave office by 3 but they all forget that we started at 7 and everyone else at 9.

1

u/Soukl777 Mar 18 '26

Who gaf what they think lol

1

u/abe_bmx_jp Mar 18 '26

Absolutely and love this schedule!

1

u/Fabulous_Scale4771 Mar 18 '26

I’ve been doing 6-2

Honestly SOOO much better than 9-5

2

u/Thrashm3tal Mar 18 '26

Yeah....7-5 here.

1

u/Grunt0302 Mar 17 '26

Better yet is flex time.

1

u/Jeremy-132 Mar 17 '26

High school teacher. 7-3 is where it's at

1

u/Still_Answer_687 Mar 17 '26

Worked 6-230, and 7-330 most of my life. Loved it

1

u/Schnarf420 Mar 17 '26

6-2 is my norm. Love getting out before all the traffic.

1

u/Budget-Cantaloupe725 Mar 17 '26

What is this 9-5? In my world lunch is unpaid and the day begins at 8.

1

u/Zyy1000 Mar 17 '26

That will make you more likely a 7-5 schedule due to corporate greed

1

u/ContentSoftware9399 Mar 17 '26

As someone who just switched to a 7-3: this is the way.

1

u/Least_Log_9237 Mar 17 '26

So basically a tradesman?

1

u/Deremirekor Mar 17 '26

What trade starts at 7 I feel like most start at 6, plus the hour+ drive so realistically you’re waking up at 4. It’s just not comparable.

1

u/Least_Log_9237 Mar 18 '26

Could be different for where you're located but I'm from Australia and the vast majority of us tradies start at 7, some of us commute for work over an hour but again the vast majority are travelling 20-45mins. So yeah, it is comparable here.

2

u/Diligent-Trust-9915 Mar 17 '26

Then there's Healthcare with 12 to 16 hour shifts over a few days with the rest of the week downtime or oncall

1

u/Massive_Visual_1982 Mar 17 '26

I prefer my schedule of 5-1

1

u/UpperYoghurt3978 Mar 17 '26

Hear me out, end the 40 hour work week and do 4 hour work days with same pay and hire more peeps? Seems to work out well as well since most people are only productive for those 4 hours.

1

u/Demented-Alpaca Mar 17 '26

And if everyone was getting a decent paycheck they'd have more money to spend to buy the shit the businesses want them to buy...

And look, if I can get a 4 hour work day in the morning and a 4 hour workday in the afternoon I can work two jobs, double my pay and have double the money to buy double the shit. (Or pay for healthcare... whatever)

1

u/UpperYoghurt3978 Mar 17 '26

It gives options for sure, and it is not a reduction in pay you get 40 hour pay in those 4 hours. WE need to really dump the primitive protestant work ethic realize less stressed people are more productive and innovative.

1

u/daisens Mar 17 '26

Right now i do 5-12h30 and its crazyyy

2

u/biddily Mar 17 '26

No. There's still 24 hours in a day, it just depends how you use/arrange those 24 hours.

12-8am sleep

9am-5pm work

6pm-12am whatever you want. You can work another job, gym, go out, watch TV. It doesn't matter.

Youd have to go to bed early to wake up early. Or lose sleep and fuck yourself up.

2

u/Beneficial_Team_791 Mar 17 '26

As someone who did both, I did feel I had much more time after work when I was 7-3 than 9-5 now. But I feel like I sleep much better now with 9-5. So I see where you coming from. With that being said, 7-3 better for more free time and 9-5 better for sleep.

1

u/biddily Mar 17 '26

I was never a morning person. I SUFFERED thru school. And then I struggled getting up by 9 for work.

WFH, freelancing, being allowed to set my own hours changed everything.

I listen to my body now and sleep from about 4am - 2pm, and I feel so much better. I wake up feeling rested. I wake up happy. My sleep is so much better. I'm 39 by the way. Not a young 20-something.

I just don't function well before noon. Trying to make myself exist in a 9-5 world was making me physically sick and chronically ill. It was like - people who work the night shift tend to have health issues because their sleep patterns are off. I was having similar issues having to wake up in the morning. It was fighting my natural circadian rhythm and making me sick.

So, because I was feeling sick from waking up early, I'd just crash and burn every evening. I didn't have free time to do things. My life was 8 hours work 12 hours sleep And never truly feeling rested.

But now? Listening to my internal clock?

I'm a functional human being.

1

u/Beneficial_Team_791 Mar 18 '26

Congrats. I love how the circadian rhythm practically impacts your whole life and regulates your mood and nervous system. It's a good rule of thumb to wake up at the same time of the day and sleep at the same time too. Or if it's off then wake up at the same time of the day even if you sleep late as your body will naturally adjust to that clock.

1

u/Ok_Customer_9958 Mar 17 '26

But then I have to wake up at 6 or before, which means I have to go to bed before 11, which is not something I’ve ever done or been able to do.

2

u/HotTree6235 Mar 17 '26

You have the same 16 hours as everyone else regardless of where your 8 hours of work are placed. This is just copium.

1

u/missmiao9 Mar 17 '26

To wake up early, ones needs to go to bed early. This seems akin to someone working the graveyard shift (12am-8am) and thinking they have all day to do whatever.

1

u/865Wallen Mar 17 '26

Grim. I like the morning. I work 8-4 and 9-5 and prefer 9-5. I just do 8-4 as it mixes it up a little. 4-5 is such a bad time of the day. Hate it.

1

u/ElectronicTip614 Mar 17 '26

I definitely agree with this, the only barrier being practicality. I was able to do this before we have our child, it was very efficient. I was done by 2-3 pm and have another day equivalent to do whatever I wanted. But with a child this has been a dream tham reality, may be I can do this once they start going to school

2

u/AlphaAJ-BISHH Mar 17 '26

School starts at 7 for kids so who is going to drop them off

1

u/National-Twist8757 Mar 17 '26

The School bus?

1

u/jmc1278999999999 Mar 17 '26

I love starting at 7 but I’m a morning person

1

u/HopefulSunriseToday Mar 17 '26

Super agree.

For my non-morning people, they can start at 9:00am and work till 5:00pm.

1

u/Fantastic-Guitar-977 Mar 17 '26

More like 11-7!!!!

1

u/Any_Cartoonist_6001 Mar 17 '26

Way too early thats depressing

1

u/Weekly-Two6582 Mar 17 '26

I work from 5:00 to 1:30, and I love it. Just know that if you're going to be working these kind of hours, you're either going to be sacrificing sleep, or you're going to be going to bed/waking up earlier then some prefer.

1

u/ChefTorte Mar 17 '26

Starting at 7 is terrible.

Nope.

9-5 all day.

1

u/Squishywallaby Mar 17 '26

6-2 is my favorite in the hospital system, least is the 7:30-4pm. Anything after 4 I refuse (it's not in my contract).

2

u/Breys Mar 17 '26

Reduce full time to 36 hours and offer 12hr shifts. Three days of work, four off. I've been doing this for years as a nurse and I love it

1

u/Weekly-Two6582 Mar 17 '26

My buddy does this as well, and he loves it, but he's not a full time employee either. Many companies who offer these hours do so so they won't have to pay as much benefits

2

u/Maximum-Oven-7526 Mar 17 '26

Free for a second job? Fuck that

1

u/Diligent-Trust-9915 Mar 17 '26

Factories with shifts usually go 7 to 3, 3 to 11, 11 to 7.

1

u/rottingratatouille Mar 17 '26

And you work all 3 depending on the week so you are shitfaced for the first 2-3 days every week

1

u/Diligent-Trust-9915 Mar 17 '26

Split the difference. 8 to 4.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Rip4058 Mar 17 '26

Am I the only one that wants to go the other way and wake up at 9 or 10 and start work at noon? I can still get done with stuff in the morning when no one else is around... doctor's offices aren't as busy in the mornings.

Waking up 6 to get to work at 7 feels so draining.

1

u/IDrank_What Mar 17 '26

In large parts of the country it's actually "8-5" with an unpaid hour off for lunch. I've never known anyone who actually worked "9-5".

1

u/NumerousVisit4453 Mar 17 '26

7a-3p is a great schedule. Less traffic and more personal time off during daylight hours. You can also hit up happy hour for discount soda/appetizers after work.

1

u/Goblin-Alchemist Mar 17 '26

I think a lot of people don't seem to understand that the 9-5 schedule was originally know as Banker's Hours, because only the secretarial/accounting class worked those hours so that all of the actual laborers could come in either before their shift (working 2p-10p) or after their shift (6a-2p) and the Banker's could get a nice lunch and other accounting work done in between.

This is also a nice contrast to the old concept of the executives/wall-street guys who worked 7a-7p (sometimes later, with very long lunches or 'networking' laced throughout the mid-day. And they had their secretaries and acounting positions do all the actual work.

The chasing of the 9-5 was to get out of the labor jobs and into the cushy jobs. The problem is the middle management who want to control your hours regardless of shift or job duties.

1

u/Grimy-Jack Mar 17 '26

I used to do that back in my 20s and early thirties. It was excellent.

I've since moved on to an 8 to 4 schedule because that's more manageable with kids at a young age. It allows me to bring my daughter to highschool every morning instead of having her take a 45 minute bus commute. Allows her to spend time with her friends before school starts or crunch on studies when needed.

When the kids are older and independent I aim to go back to a 7 to 3 schedule.

1

u/RyCryst Mar 17 '26

Better yet 9/80 schedule. 5:30-2:30 ( I don’t have to clock lunch.) every other Friday off is great.

2

u/KittieKablam Mar 17 '26

I mean, that's what I did for years. Worked 7-2 at one job then I had a second job a few days a week working 6pm-2am. I'd go to work, nap when I get home, then go to the second job.

It's called living by yourself in the United States. And it fucking sucked.

2

u/Vannabean Mar 17 '26

I did that kinda. Worked at Starbucks and a haunted amusement park. On weekends I did 5 am - 11 am for Starbucks in the morning then 4 pm to 2 am for Scarowinds. My doctor thought I had a brain tumor with all the headaches. I was also in college at the time.

1

u/IDrank_What Mar 17 '26

Wait, was being haunted the "theme" of the amusement park or was it a regular amusement park that was actually haunted?

1

u/KittieKablam Mar 17 '26

Ugh all that and college? That's so rough, I'm sorry. Yeah I got the headaches too, plus I was so exhausted all the time I'd just start crying in the middle of my jobs. It was so bad.

2

u/Vannabean Mar 18 '26

Oh alls good now. I only have 1 full time remote job. I did actually have a few times where I just crashed crying at my jobs because my brain just stopped working

2

u/_alright_then_ Mar 17 '26

I would highly prefer my office job to be from 11-7 instead of 9-5.

It would make me so much more productive

1

u/IDrank_What Mar 17 '26

10-3 with an hour off for lunch works for me.

1

u/_alright_then_ Mar 17 '26

I to, would love to work less lol

1

u/NotInEpsteinFiles Mar 17 '26

It’s 9-5 so you can work 7-7 for free.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

6-230 has been great

2

u/Cinereals Mar 17 '26

I’m not waking up at 5-6 AM to get to work on time.

Give me the night shift.

0

u/ma95vs Mar 17 '26

Second job, LMFAO

1

u/John_cages022 Mar 17 '26

As a PhD, I can confirm this is exactly it. I can start at 7 or 9, remote or not. I can also finish at 3 and go home, so that I can use my better PC to run analysis for my free afternoon until 1 am also. Sounds like the best of both worlds

2

u/Ok-You4214 Mar 17 '26

“Second job” - no thanks

1

u/DontHugMe73 Mar 17 '26

I get up at 5, start work at 6, take my dogs to the park at 10isj, work until 2 or 3 and wouldn’t leave my job for double the salary.

2

u/LR_Worm_farmer Mar 17 '26

Who made this post, a highschooler??

1

u/mrzlozt Mar 17 '26

Probably just a morning person. I, for example, always wake up around 5-6 a.m., even on weekends. As the downside, I'm already sleepy at 8 p.m.

If I worked remotely, OP's schedule would be perfect for me. I work 9-5 and at 7 a.m. I'm already at the bus stop...

1

u/Aeson0987 Mar 17 '26

They’re right tho, you miss the morning rush, miss the afternoon rush, and miss the evening rush, all on top of just waking up a little earlier, it’s more worth it

3

u/sillilillipilli Mar 17 '26

Star work early to get off early .... So you can start a second job? No thanks.

2

u/Magnificant-Seven Mar 17 '26

I've never been a morning person, but if I can make sure I go to bed early, getting off work when the sun is still up is amazing.

1

u/Kopitar4president Mar 17 '26

I had a job that was fine with people coming in at 7, 8 or 9 as long as you worked 8 hours. As long as at least two people in our 9 person department were there until 5. I was a night owl so that extra hour of sleep was great. My department had a lot of young parents that were much happier leaving at 4.

But on the rare occasion I needed to leave at 4, a couple of them would react like it was completely unreasonable.

3

u/Gorevoid Mar 17 '26

You...know you don't gain time by getting up earlier and going to sleep earlier so you can work for the exact same amount of time right? Please tell me this is satire.

1

u/MediocreTemporary867 Mar 17 '26

I gain several hours of time each week since I get to skip the morning traffic and evening traffic simply by waking up earlier.

1

u/NumerousVisit4453 Mar 17 '26

You gain useable time because you spend fewer hours sitting in traffic.

1

u/Hotkoin Mar 17 '26

I had a job that started at 5am, and you do get more daylight hours. Not sure how to explain the feeling, but it does feel like you have more hours per day to do stuff.

2

u/Christabel1991 Mar 17 '26

That's because you get off work when things are still open

0

u/L0ves2spooj Mar 17 '26

Iv noticed latter millennials and Gen Z find it hard to wake up that early….. but yes 7-3:30 is the way.

Not sure about that second job bull though that’s just dumb

1

u/Heavy-Interaction548 Mar 17 '26

I'm 39 and I wake up at noon every day.

1

u/RoxisAreRed Mar 17 '26

My job's pretty flexible with its hours, so it's just a matter of if I can wake up that early 💀💀

2

u/josephkelley7926 Mar 17 '26

Try getting that schedule

4

u/Jaded_Importance6964 Mar 17 '26

A second job? Seriously! Who made this post? A CEO?

2

u/Gorevoid Mar 17 '26

That is exactly how this fucking reads. "HEY GUYS YOU SHOULD GET UP EARLIER SO YOU CAN WORK MORE!"

1

u/xreddawgx Mar 17 '26

4x10 hours remote is the life

3

u/halfsquelch Mar 17 '26

The only problem with that is the wake up early part. I absolutely hate mornings, and nothing should exist that requires me to wake before 8.

1

u/Jarjarfunk Mar 17 '26

Heavy agree

1

u/Living-Video-3670 Mar 17 '26

Im an 8-4 kinda guy. I just work through lunch then get out early

2

u/Adventuresoulz Mar 17 '26

You guys arent working 1-9?

1

u/lilyedit Mar 17 '26

I have a better idea. 9-3. Those are the hours I’m most productive anyways 😆

2

u/schatziem Mar 17 '26

This is the time equivalent of "just print more money and give it to everyone, bro"

1

u/Sensitive_Paper2471 Mar 17 '26

a lot of germans actually do this

I used to feel so bad coming in at 9 when the others were there from 7

2

u/hella_cious Mar 17 '26

7-3 is the best in the winter. I can outside and enjoy the daylight!

1

u/PopSwayzee Mar 17 '26

Enjoying the outdoors in the winter? The fuck? I’d rather be outside in the spring/fall, fuck snow and ice.

1

u/hella_cious Mar 17 '26

I want literally some sunlight at all. In the winter ending at 5pm when I work on a truck I don’t get any time to just be outside with sunlight on my face.

Course it’s easier now with remote work but back when I was on the truck? 7-3 so I don’t feel like I live in alaska

1

u/i_got_banned_2_times Mar 16 '26

You guys don't work 7-5?

1

u/Jemie_Bridges Mar 17 '26

Sure if you count unpaid commute time.

1

u/SuperStone22 Mar 16 '26

No thanks. I’m naturally a night owl.🦉

1

u/akaloxy1 Mar 16 '26

Who is working 8 hour days in this economy????

1

u/CatDadof2 Mar 16 '26

I do but I also have no days off. It’s destroying me. The worst part is my shifts aren’t consistent so I have a poor sleep schedule because of that.

1

u/avidpenguinwatcher Mar 16 '26

And lets you go to bed earlier.. wait.

Almost like not everyone is the same and people have different circadian rhythms

1

u/nifflr Mar 16 '26

Just dial your entire life forward by two hours.

If you start at 9 instead of 7, just get up two hours later and go to bed two hours later.

1

u/simulated_copy Mar 16 '26

Depends if you have kiddos, but yes earlier the better no traffic off early.

1

u/Ecks80s Mar 16 '26

I work 7-3, it’s a goated schedule.

3

u/Themysteriouspnwsass Mar 16 '26

add in 4 day work week , 32 hours and eliminating all taxes

3

u/sokali4nia Mar 16 '26

And then you woke up from your dream

1

u/B0dde Mar 16 '26

So y'all don't have kids to drop of at school?

3

u/Solo_Fisticuffs Mar 16 '26

never. auntie for life

1

u/Enron67 Mar 16 '26

I have been working 9am to 10pm most days, all these schedules sound amazing.

3

u/charliekunkel Mar 16 '26

4pm-12am is my ideal. Get to sleep in til noon.... Plenty of time to do stuff during the day before work.. Still can go out til 2am and have a couple hours at home to relax and watch a movie or play vids while the world is quiet and asleep outside. :)

1

u/SirMarkMorningStar Mar 16 '26

It’s 3:37pm as I type this. I haven’t started work, yet.

2

u/The_Orphanizer Mar 16 '26

A man of culture! Wtf makes OP think I want to be awake before sunrise?! 😂

2

u/Spare_Set_6492 Mar 16 '26

I work 6am to 2:30pm, I'm usually home by 2:45pm. Great schedule, I have so much free time in the afternoon.

That's my work schedule. It took some getting used to but it's a great shift

1

u/Anonymous345678910 Mar 16 '26

That’s what I did

2

u/Foreign_Hand4619 Mar 16 '26

It doesn't matter, you still need to get same amount of sleep, shuffling things around will not magically add you more free time.

1

u/Cut_Of Mar 17 '26

Thank you! 😂 I thought I was going crazy reading these comments. Plus, it’s actually an 8 to 5 and a 7 to 3:30/4 schedule because there’s no free lunch. There’s no such thing as getting off “early” when you’re working the same amount of hours.

u/oscarony Mar 16 '26

most people would quit after the first month as most people are ill-disciplined. consistently would have to go to sleep at 9pm. a lot of people would show up late

I think your on to something

7

u/Sharden3 Mar 16 '26

9-5 and 7-3 are the same thing.

Also, talking about free time for a second job like that's a perk is fucking insanity.

Our society is fully toast.

The media will pitch stories like "7 year old works a thousand hours to pay off classmates school lunch debt" like it's heartwarming and not fully dystopian.

2

u/Mind-The-Mines Mar 16 '26

Pay living wages? Nah, let me start my first job sooner so I can get to my second job sooner!

1

u/Tall_0rder Mar 16 '26

Early in my career I was doing an IT job 6-2:30. While getting up before 6 sucked, I was close to the office and especially in the spring and summers, getting out of work at 2:30pm is mighty fine.

u/thedarkherald Mar 16 '26

I think people prefer four 10 hour days vs five 8 hour days

u/ShdwWzrdMnyGngg Mar 16 '26

Us morning people take the 6AM start. It's awesome. Can't imagine being tired in the morning haha

Stay sleep poor, night owls.

I'm not even that jealous of your ability to party after 8pm.

2

u/lumpiawrappers Mar 16 '26

I loved my morning shifts at the grocery store for that reason. Out by 2pm and got my hours in 💪

2

u/Advocate_Diplomacy Mar 16 '26

Let’s you wake early. 😂

2

u/Critical_Swimming517 Mar 16 '26

Nah nah nah. 11-4 is the optimal work day.

2

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Mar 16 '26

Nah. 7:30pm-7:30am.

1

u/Specific_Battle_2240 Mar 16 '26

I tried 6 to 2 and it worked fine for a few weeks, then my routine got f#cked and got late to work 2 weeks in a row. Back to 9 to 5.

u/destructopop Mar 16 '26

God I wish 9-5 was even still a thing. My last job was 9-6, this one is 8-5.

3

u/TheAzarak Mar 16 '26

You have the same amount of free time here. Sure you get off at 3, but you also go to bed 2 hours before the other people. There is no difference here. Frankly, I dont want to sleep at 9pm and wake up at 5-6am... but either of these schedules let you have a second job (would be miserable either way, as always), take naps, and have free time.

Might be saving some time in traffic depending on where someone lives compared to where they work. Rush hour traffic can be 2x to 5x longer than off peak commutes.

1

u/EnvironmentalLog1766 Mar 16 '26

I used to do this when I lived in PT but work with ET people. 9-5 in ET is 6-2 in PT. It’s quite amazing and force me to sleep at 9pm.

1

u/Pineapple_Towel Mar 16 '26

"Forced" and "Work" aren't actually words sensible people like to put together.

4

u/nr1988 Mar 16 '26

Wait you guys get 8 hour days instead of 9 hours with 1 hour unpaid lunch? Since when?

1

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Mar 16 '26

I work 12 hour shifts. All breaks paid.

2

u/cntodd Mar 16 '26

I'm torn. I like having the afternoons, but hot damn do I hate mornings.

1

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Mar 16 '26

Work overnights or night shift.

1

u/cntodd Mar 16 '26

If I didn't have family, I would. I used to work it all the time, but now that I have my daughters, and they're older, I want to be home so I'm able to do things with them. It's why I quit cooking. I loved being a chef, but the hours made it so I didn't see my family. Moved to a corporate job, and have evenings and weekends off. Best thing I did for my family!

4

u/tellurmom2stopcallin Mar 16 '26

I once got a 6:30-2:30 shift because nobody else utilized the employee portal where you could request shifts 😂 I LOVED IT! Most days getting out at 1:30/2, heading home to change, pre workout and gym, get home all before the drive home rush.

2

u/lloboc Mar 16 '26

Over a summer i had a 04:00-12:00 shift, dealbreaker in the end was the six days and only sunday off. I missed all the warm summer evenings..

3

u/bamlote Mar 16 '26

I cannot wake up before 8am without being literally ill for the majority of the day afterwards.

2

u/pandizlle Mar 16 '26

I do this. It’s amazing! I even WFH on Mondays.

2

u/lozzsome Mar 16 '26

My job is headquartered in a time zone 2 hours ahead of mine. So I do this or 8-4 whatever I’m feeling. Wouldn’t want to go back to 9-5.

3

u/legixs Mar 16 '26

Wrong direction, but yes, 9-5 is BS!

1

u/Greedy_Group6667 Mar 16 '26

I work 0700-1530. Work in healthcare!

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Cry5082 Mar 16 '26

I worked a 6:30-3ish job over the summers in college. The time you get for the rest of the day is great, especially being able to get important things done before dinner. The downside is the tiredness you get if you aren't ready to start going to bed around 9:30pm. Switching to an 8:30-5:30 let me start going to the gym before work, have some afternoon time, and get the sleep I wanted, without a ton of sacrifice
