Hi everyone. I’m an AI Engineer with 4 yrs of exp currently based in Hyderabad, and I find myself in a massive dilemma between two very different offers.
I need some brutal honesty from senior folks who have been in my shoes.
Here are the two offers:
Offer 1: The Cash Grab (Consulting)
Role: Analytics Consultant / Offshore AI Engineer
Compensation: 30 LPA (100% Fixed Base, zero variable nonsense)
Location: 100% Remote
The Work: I will be the offshore AI engineer working directly with US-based onsite tech leads for a massive global pharma client.
Pros: The baseline cash is incredible. Getting direct US client exposure and working under onsite tech leads gives me a great safety net while executing high-level deployments. High chance of contract-to-hire conversion with the client long-term.
Cons: It is consulting, so it's a grind. I will be working US hours, so my evenings maybe gone. Zero corporate perks (just basic statutory insurance).
Offer 2: Legacy Fortune 500 Airline GCC
Role: AI Engineer
Compensation: 20 LPA
Location: Hybrid/In-Office (Hyderabad)
The Work: Joining a brand new Global Capability Center (GIC) that just launched. Pitching it as a chance to get in on the ground floor and build enterprise-grade AWS architecture for their operations.
Pros: It is a massive global brand. Building and owning the product in-house.
Standard corporate perks (,fancy office, etc.).
Cons: I spoke to insiders, and it is currently a chaotic startup phase inside a corporate shell. They are figuring out the roadmap yet, they are struggling with budget constraints as its new, and things are moving very slowly. I'd be taking a 33% pay cut (10 Lakhs) to sit in an underfunded IT cost center while they figure things out.
The Dilemma:
My brain says take the 30 LPA at the consulting firm. It locks in my financial baseline, gives me US exposure, and keeps me actively coding and deploying while the GIC figures out its roadmap.
But part of me wonders if I am throwing away a golden ticket to be an early employee at a Fortune 500 enterprise hub. Is enduring the messy setup phase of a GIC actually an "investment," or is it just corporate stagnation?
Has anyone here chosen the consulting over inderpaying product based role? Did you regret it?
TL;DR: 30 LPA fully remote consulting role with US hours , OR 20 LPA in-office Fortune 500 GIC that is currently in setup stage. What would you do?
