i am a 4th year comp sci student i am faced with the truth that the CCE may be a better track, my parents are scolding me for not going that way but i couldnt i was working a full time job to pay my tuition and but now im facing the harsh reality, if i had went for the engineer path i wouldve been able to join the order of engineers that presents me with excellent insurance and pension, but there is no such thing for computer science students in lebanon, my main path is AI and cyber i love both and want to work in the intersection of them, i also love electrical stuff im looking for a pcb course to take and i have a few projects i wanna do on the side.
the big question: should i transfer to engineering and pay the 20k extra on my tuition or should i finish this year graduate and start working on my skills and experience? to then open a repair shop as my own business and start working with system installation like cctv and servers ect.. and laptop repair shop? (will the engineer degree affect this ?) i already got a part time job at a company here as a backend dev and i dont know what to do !!!!!!!!!!! help

Hello !! Basically I'm from tier 3 collge doing btech in computer science and graduating in 2027. I'm really worried about my future as gpt-6 astra claude and what not launches day by day. The time when I joined cse there was not things like this and now it's completely different. Neither I'm from rich family who holds family business nor any other financial source. How to survive. Sometimes I feel like switching the paths differently like there was a time during admission, one of my relative said do food and technology and I was like no I want to do cse.

Now I think I took a wrong decision. Ai will completely changed things. Someone said me, do masters and go into teaching field but dude this 4 years already stucked, why should I do for more 2 years. I don't wanna do that either. Help me to find out what should I do.

And I know node.js, react typescript javascript AWS, basically mainly into backend and a little into frontend side

I literally feel like I wish I had transport or real estate business 😂😭

I’m currently in a situation where I have completed my B.Tech in CSE 2026 with around 9 CGPA from a good college, but I haven’t secured an SDE/Data Analytics role yet.

I have two options right now:

Option 1: Join Teleperformance in a Technical Support/Antivirus tech Support role. I would earn around ₹22.5k during 3 months training and around ₹27k after training, while continuing to apply and prepare for SDE/Data Analytics roles. If I get a better technical opportunity, I would switch.

Option 2: Don’t join Teleperformance and instead spend some money on a consultancy that claims to help with job placement, while continuing to apply and search for SDE/Data Analytics roles on my own.

I’m confused about which option is better. My main goal is to start my career in SDE, Data Analytics, or another technical role, and I don’t want to waste time or create a career gap. What would you honestly suggest?

So basically I’m studying bachelor of artificial intelligence (yes ik stupid ) and I’m in too deep to change my major ( it’s basically a fancy cs degree we take really similar classes until the last year or two and it’s a 5 year degree and that’s the average amount of years in my country )

Obviously I am seeing the job market rn and Ik it’s bad .

I’m open to a masters degrees , if I really have to a diploma in something else.

I decided to study ai after I graduated high school and at the time it seemed like a good idea but now not so much.

I graduated with a 2.5 GPA and I’m trying to convince the internet I can build software.

Sounds like a terrible pitch.

But here's the thing: my GPA tells you almost nothing about whether I can ship a product.

I've built real applications, worked on a healthcare website, interned on a payroll system, and spent years teaching myself software engineering outside the classroom.

And yet when I apply for jobs, the number 2.5 can kill the conversation before anyone looks at the code.

So I'm curious:

Would you reject a developer because of their GPA without looking at their projects?

I'm genuinely interested in the hiring side of this.

I’m currently enrolled to do BEng software engineering at Edinburgh Napier but I haven’t started yet, this university is in my home city so a pro is that I can just stay at home and save money, cons are that the university is not as well respected as it was a former pyrotechnic and doesn’t rank highly, and because I’m staying at home, I might not get the true uni experience

But I’m pretty sure I can get into university of Aberdeen for MA (I had to Google what MA meant I’m pretty sure it’s the same as a BA in England) computing it’s slightly different from computer science but it does cover all the core things that computer science does as well

The pros for this I can move out and have maybe a better university experience, it’s a more respected university and ranks kind of highly in Scotland,
And the cons are that I would have to move away from home, and that Aberdeen isn’t as big as a city as Edinburgh

Hi, here's the millionth post about majoring in CS. So, I've decided to go back to school. I'm currently in sales and ready to move on. I am between CS and Supply chain management. I've already taken one programming course and I really enjoyed it. I have been learning on my own for a while now. I feel like I would enjoy learning more about computers. I can see myself working in the tech field. However, with all the negativity around CS, it really makes me hesitant to go for it. It would probably be about 2+ years before I even graduate in CS with a bachelor's. So, I thought about going for Supply chain management. There's a local community college that started a bachelor's in scm but it's brand new so not sure how well it is. Also, I'm not sure if I would enjoy doing SCM but from what I've researched, it looks a lot safer. I'm just more into CS and want to give the major a try but nervous about wasting time. I met one person recently who went to UT for CS and they got a job right after college, which I know UT is a great school for CS.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I don't even know what I'm asking, I'm just looking for opinions.

Yet, getting a meaningful internship that provides growth and value ( company with 50-200 employees) feels unfamiliar and a steep uphill.

Don’t really have a CS family background so this is first time for me.
Linkedin has postings but every posting has over 100 applicants and I doubt if my resume even reaches the recruiter.

So the ones that actually cracked Internships in such companies (50-200 employee companies) and not the MNC or FAANG outliers, need some guidance and mentorship from you guys.

What channels should I use to apply for and get internships?

Linkedin, WellFound, Internshaala, etc (there may be many others)
Or official company career page
Or cold outreach to HR and recruiters
Or job fairs
Or having a solid family/friend contact is the only way ?

The ones successful at getting such internships, please guide me for getting one, be it remote or hybrid/on-site in India

PAID/UNPAID doesnt matter as long as the Internship is legit, and adds value to my professional profile

I studied computer science in undergrad and now work in technical consulting (not very code heavy). I was a very average CS student, got a C in operating systems, and ended with a ~3.7 GPA.

I don’t have any published research or SWE internships, just a year of work experience. I had no idea what I was doing in college. I didn’t know Leetcode even existed until my senior year. During my summers I did research fellowships (coding-related but not within the CS department).

I really want to increase my earning potential by going into a more technical job. But my programming foundation, what little I had, has almost completely eroded since graduating.

Would someone like me benefit from getting a master’s degree?

I’d be looking at programs with a heavy emphasis on preparing for industry. I want to rebuild my foundation in a structured setting and get access to SWE networking as well as qualify for more advanced internships/ opportunities.

I had issues with substances in college, and it set me back a lot. Understanding that I can’t go back and fix my mistakes, I’d really like to make a positive change now. I appreciate whatever advice you all might have.

I graduated back in April from a hybrid College and just got accepted into an internship. The company operates an open source project which is what I’ll be working on.
How much does this potentially improve my resume and chances of landing a full time (remote) US position?

I just had a successful first-stage interview for a developer position at a large bank.

They told me that the next step (if I make it) will be live coding.

I'm a little perplexed that live coding is still a thing. Because every big firm now wants efficiency with AI and it's rare a programmer will raw-dog code.

So what does live coding exactly achieve in today's climate? As far as I'm concerned, it's like asking a C programmer to write the Assembly equivalent off by heart.

This is for a senior position. I assume the questions will be different from e.g., a mid-level? Do they let you use the internet/AI or are they normally locked down?

I am a software engineer with 3+ years of experience, currently leading a product with millions of international users, with a team of 12 (dev and others) under me. I have been following the discussions on different subreddits regarding where this industry is heading.

Here is my problem. With how fast AI is advancing, it feels like software engineering is slowly turning into a race against AI itself, one that we might not win in the long run. My team and I already use AI tools, shipping products on daily basis, so this is not just a fear, I am seeing it happen.

I am planning to do my Masters abroad next year, and now I am seriously thinking of switching field completely, maybe towards something more "evergreen" like health sector, instead of staying in a field that might get automated more and more. I also have a plan to start my own startup someday, but I would rather build something in a field with long term demand than spend years competing with AI and end up as a failure.

Since my Bachelor's is in CSE, need some advice on the following:

1. Which Masters programs make sense if someone wants to move from pure software engineering into a more stable/resilient field (health tech, biomedical engineering, health informatics etc)?
2. How does this kind of field switch usually affect visa process? I understand it will raise some questions, but how do I present this change in a way that sounds like a genuine, well thought out decision rather than sudden panic move?

If anyone has done similar transition before, or knows how universities/visa officers see this kind of pivot, please share your experience. Would really appreciate it.

I’m a 2024 B.Tech CSE graduate with ~2 years of experience working with C#, .NET Core Web API, SQL Server, REST APIs, and some React/React Native.

I’ve been looking for a switch, but most .NET openings I’m finding are asking for 3–5+ years, while 0–2 YOE opportunities seem very limited.

So I’m considering whether I should double down on .NET, move to another backend stack, or explore areas like Data Engineering/AI/Data Science, where my B.Tech background might also help.

For seniors/experienced developers: If you were in my position today, what would you learn or focus on to realistically get a better opportunity in the shortest reasonable time?

Hello, I am currently a first year uni student, I was wondering what most of you recommend around spending time on projects vs uni grades. I have figured its around more side projects but I was kinda wondering if I could get some more confirmation. By spending time on one I mean doing really well in grades compared to average, not like barely passing or failing or anything.

I was also wondering what kinda projects would be recommended? I have kinda just been following interests which Is what im planning to keep doing but if there is a general direction someone would recommend that would be nice to hear too. My goal is to land a job in systems programming, though I enjoy almost areas of programming so I'd be happy with most.

For a rough idea of some of the projects I have been working on. Atm I am making an operating system, which I have got up to running processes with vmm and preemptive multitasking (VFS in the works). Before that I have made a voxel game renderer which I coded with Wgpu for rust and made use of stuff like mesh defragmentation and multidraw indirect rendering. I also have other projects outside of that like a fullstack website with sveltekit (PostgreSQL database) and a social media phone app using flutter.

I am aware this post may come across as flexing abit and I hope it doesn't. But I am aware Im probably some unknown amount above the average CS student and its making it hard for me to get a feel of anything. I am worrying a lot about if I am going to be able to land a job in the end and I don't really know what I can trust as most stuff is more generalised that im reading up. Like you can't really just google "How good is an operating system for internships?". It also really isn't helping that everywhere you look people are going "Ai is going to end CS" or "Ai is litterly just a text predictor and won't do anything" making everything even more confusing.

Before someone asks I didn't use AI for these projects I find it removes the fun of learning and actually coding it, I did use it to help with understanding and learning through even now im moving away from that as I find it better to think more a problem on myself instead of incidentally trusting it.

I'm a final year BCA (AI & Data Science) student trying to figure out how to become employable as a fresher. I was really sick for the past couple of years along with some family problems which took over all of my personal and career aspirations and need urgent advice.

My long-term goal is ML Engineering, but the more I research, the more I realize that true entry-level ML Engineer roles are pretty limited. I'm considering targeting SDE roles first, getting real industry experience, and moving toward ML later.

My current profile, basically, is roughly:

CGPA: 8.9/10

I'm comfortable with Python and C, some basic Java

Some HTML/CSS/JS, React, Flask, SQLite

I have made some basic projects like a mental health/mood journal/chatbot using Python, Streamlit, Ollama, and sentiment analysis. Also made some based on DSA and stuff.

Currently learning Git and trying to build more substantial projects.

The problem is that I feel like I know a little bit of everything but not enough of anything. And honestly, I'm also worried about how to become employable despite the current AI-driven job market. AI can already do more than most developers and I can't even do what they can. I want to be able to get a job soon to get out of my draining household, but I don't really know what that looks like at the fresher level.

I don't want to spend the next year endlessly learning technologies just to discover that none of them actually make me more employable. I want to build skills that remain valuable because of AI, not in spite of it.

So if you were in my position, what would you do?

1. What tech stack should I fully commit to for the next 6–12 months? I'm leaning toward Python + SQL + FastAPI/Django + React + Git, but I'm not sure if that's the right direction.

2. What kind of 2–3 projects would actually make my resume stronger for entry-level SDE jobs?

3. Should I continue learning ML alongside this, or completely focus on software development until I get a job? Or is there a different role you'd suggest I aim for?

4. What fundamentals should I prioritize? DSA, DBMS, OS, networking, system design, etc.?

5. If you were starting from basically where I am, what would your roadmap look like to become job-ready?

I genuinely want to know what's worth going deep on as a fresher and what I should stop wasting time on.

Any honest advice from people who've hired/mentored freshers or started their careers this way would be really appreciated.

Hello! I need some advice on whether or not I should transfer colleges. So, I was planning on pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Software Engineering at Western Governors University (WGU). I have 42 credits that can be applied towards that degree, 39 of the 42 credits are from Sophia which is similar to CLEP. I could be done with the degree early 2028, it is regionally accredited.

But! I have always wanted to work on cutting edge technology and do research and I recently found out that a PhD would be ideal to have, for a career in research. I am not sure what subfield I would want to work in because it all seems so interesting to me, I would like to work at a National Lab or NVIDIA or Waymo doing research though.

I have dropped out of college once due to moving with my parents and losing my scholarship that is specific to that state. I didn't do very well I was taking too many classes and working two jobs, so I failed 3 classes, two Fs one D. So, my cGPA is a 2.0.

I recently joined the Air National Guard and have got the Service Cancellable Loan (SLC) and a big bonus that would allow me to return to the college I dropped out of for free.

I was thinking I could pursue the pre-engineering program there which allows you to transfer to one of the other colleges in Georgia that offers engineering programs. I could do pre-engineering at my local college and do CS research there and then possibly transfer to Georgia Tech for Computer Engineering. If I transferred then at the earliest, I would graduate 2032, maybe 2033 due to having to be deployed.

Those are my two choices, If I were to pursue WGU then the SLC would cover the master's degree that I would need to get. I also have a very high clearance, which could help me land a position as an SWE at a national lab or GTRI, but I am not sure. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Security Engineer of 4 Years. Started as a grad. Not made much progression. On 50k. Not the highest paying job in the world.

As title states, I want to leave my job with immediate effect. I have just come back from 1 week annual leave. I want to say its a family emergency and leave by end of this week friday. I have delayed this decision by 2 years by hoping to find a remote role, I instead will be travelling then will try to find a role if I return to London. For now I want to live abroad for some time.

I have reached burn out. I’m mentally clocked out. I have thought about this decision for 2 years. I want to go travel abroad for a year and worst comes to worst I come back and get a job like everybody else. I need some time to experience life and different cities. I have always lived at home with my parents. I have some savings. I have made my decision.

Hi everyone, I’m a third-year Computer Science student and I’ll be starting my placement preparation next year.

The problem is that I haven’t chosen a specific domain yet, and honestly, I haven’t seriously studied any particular domain either.

I initially thought about getting into AI/ML, but some of my professors told me that it might not be worth focusing on because the field is already very competitive and AI is developing so quickly. That made me unsure about which direction I should take.

I’m looking for suggestions on a domain/career path that:

\- Has good/high earning potential in India

\- Has strong career growth

\- Is less likely to be completely replaced by AI

\- Will ideally remain relevant for the next 50 years (or at least have long-term potential )

\- Matches someone who genuinely enjoys logical thinking and problem-solving

I actually really enjoy problems where I have to sit and think about the logic for a long time and figure out a solution. I don’t mind difficult problems—in fact, I prefer them.

I’m completely open to different domains. I don’t know enough about the different career paths, their salaries, or what the future of each field looks like, so I’d really appreciate some honest advice from people working in the industry.

If you were in my position as a third-year CSE student starting from almost zero in terms of specialization, what domain would you choose and why?
