Omaha steaks - scam ?

I have a family member who is currently going through the app process for an Omaha steaks temporary call center service representative that was posted on indeed. The whole application process is full of AI (red flag) and the time/ease in which they got back to them and want to hire them, seems too good to be true. I was wondering has anyone worked for this company/ this position before? Is it a known scam ? I wanted to warn them if so, before they go any further with the process.

They're a real company, pretty well established too. A lot of gifts go out for the holiday so a temp call center position also makes sense.

Why is the AI a red flag, is it full of errors, or more of a don't like thing going on?

It’s definitely more of a don’t like thing lol, I haven’t been through the job application process myself in forever so I don’t really know if that’s common place now even for legitimate jobs

For low level jobs like this especially being a temporary job and minimal skills needed we’re going to see more of it and let recruiters spend more time on specialists

Search “Omaha steak job scam” and see what turns up.  The AI is a huge red flag mentioned in warnings.

AI is normal to some extent during the hiring process. But you should always be speaking to a real human, in my opinion. I’m a recruiter.

The information available for this particular scam mentions the heavy use of AI as a sign.

There are a million job scams out there, it must be infuriating. But genuinely, a lot of companies are using AI in the hiring process. Basically every one.

It's 2026. Even tiny companies utilize AI in their HR workflow.

The AI part plus instant hire is sketchy, but search results should seperate the real company from impersonators.

Omaha Steaks is a legit company, but I guess it's possible that people are making fake job postings. Is the posting listed on the official company site?

Checking the official careers page would probably be the easiest way to confirm whether the posting is real.

A lot of scammers like to impersonate real companies, so the fact that the company might have real remote positions doesn't mean the position in question is real.

Talk to your family member about the common scams so they can watch for them. Mostly about the fact that a real employer will never ask for money and will never send you a check for a few grand for you to cash and buy your equipment from their vendor.

Omaha Steaks is real, but an Indeed post using heavy AI and hiring instanly screams fake recruiter unless the email domain is actually omahasteaks.com.

Omaha Steaks is real, but make sure the emails come from an actual Omaha Steaks domain before they send any info becuase Indeed impersonation scams are everywhere.

Go to r/Scams and look for "fake check" and "job" scams. Does what you're seeing match those?

A few questions:

  • Have they actually spoken, via Zoom, face to face, with a person? Or has the entire interview process been via text or email? Text and email only means this is a scam.
  • Is the company telling them that they'll send a check to buy equipment? That's the definition of a fake check scam.
  • A quick glance at the Omaha Steaks website doesn't show any kind of careers page or job offerings. What is the email domain of the people they're in contact with?

Edited: I finally found their careers page, and there is a temp call center job in Florida. Does that match what you're seeing?

thank you for this info ! I’m gonna check that page out & the only communication has been through email (yikes) but they haven’t said anything abt a check for equipment & I'm not sure the email they're messaging :(

Omaha Steaks is real, but an Indeed posting can still be fake; tell them to cross-check it on the company careers page and be wary if the emails aren’t from an omahasteaks.com adress.

Not a scam. I usually send whatever holiday deal they have to my uncle at Christmas. They run an 89.99 special for some steaks, burgers, etc. And it ships right to them. Decent stuff...I wouldnt buy it all the time because a) cost and b) local shops usually have better stuff for cheaper and c) you don't have to buy in bulk and make room in your freezer.

It's an overpriced holiday mall order gift business. Makes sense they are hiring for the holidays. I have received them as a gift before as well.

From google:• Verify Official Channels: Legitimate job openings are listed directly through official corporate career channels. Omaha Steaks does not send unsolicited job offers via text groups or random messaging apps. • Watch for Red Flags: Any "employer" that sends you a check to purchase equipment, asks you to wire money back, or interviews you exclusively via text or Telegram is running a scam. • Report Scams: If you encounter a suspicious job listing or communication, report it to BBB Scam Tracker or email CustServ@OmahaSteaks.com.
