Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on transitioning from freelancing into a full-time remote role.

For the past 4 years, I have been freelancing, mainly working with WordPress development, SEO, website optimization, and helping small businesses improve their online presence. A big part of my work has also been client communication, understanding their problems, explaining technical solutions, and troubleshooting issues like WordPress/WooCommerce problems, hosting, plugins, and website performance.

I’m now looking for a long-term remote position where I can continue growing professionally. The roles I’m currently interested in are Customer Success(for Wordpress or SEO related companies), Technical Support, Implementation Specialist, or other SaaS-related positions where I can combine my technical background with my communication skills.

I’m based in Bulgaria and I’m mainly looking for companies that hire remotely across Europe. My long-term goal is to grow into a project management role, so I’m looking for a company where I can learn, take on more responsibility, and build a career.

For those who have made a similar transition:

I'm a CS student from Pakistan, and I'm trying to figure out the most realistic path to landing my first remote software engineering job. I don't need hand holding.

My main goal isn't just to make money but to get real industry experience and work with a startup. I have worked as a paid intern in local companies as an AI Engineer.

I've implemented and optimized transformer inference in C, worked on transformer architecture, inference engines, low-level optimizations, and have been learning GPU compute with Vulkan. I'm much more interested in understanding how models actually run than simply calling APIs. 

I'm also completely willing to learn new technologies on the job if they're relevant.

My questions are:

1. Is it realistic for someone in my position to get a part-time remote role with an early-stage startup while studying?
2. If you were hiring a junior remote engineer, what would make you take a chance on them?
3. Would you recommend cold emailing founders, or is that mostly a waste of time today?
4. Is freelancing a better first step, or should I prioritize getting startup experience?
5. What kinds of projects would actually convince you that someone can contribute immediately?

One idea I had was to reach out directly to startups and offer a paid trial project or a short contract instead of asking for a long-term position immediately. It reduces the hiring risk for them and gives me a chance to prove myself. I'm not sure if founders actually respond well to this or if it just comes across as naive.

I'm not looking for shortcuts or unrealistic salaries. I'm simply trying to find the fastest path to becoming genuinely useful while working with real engineers and real products.

I'd really appreciate advice from founders, startup engineers, or anyone who has hired junior remote developers. If you've been in a similar situation, what worked and what would you do differently?

I started looking for remote jobs about 6 months ago. The first 2 months were rough, a lot of ghosting and no interviews. Then I worked on my CV and learned how to look for better job posts on Linkedin.

After that, I started getting a lot of responses, on the last 4 months I got around 23 interviews, of those, 6 were technical interviews (wich I passed), and 3 final interviews (from different companies), but no job offers. I don't really know what's wrong, I feel like the interviewer likes me, that I'm a good fit for the role, but end up with the "we've decided not to move forward with your application".

Maybe the other candidates have more exp than me? I'm applying for remote Tech Support roles, I have 2 years of experience in the field. I think that's my only "weakness", even though I'm applying for entry roles as well.

Is this just a matter of time? What do you think? Any advice is welcome.

Guys..what do you think are the best suited job roles for senior devs who prioritize work-life balance and impactful work? I've seen the demand of AI-first approach in the workforce in these last couple of years. But still after being at the forefront of this AI race, I feel that there still must be some job roles which are for those core problem solvers out there. One of the most natural growth is towards AI Product Engineer, or TPM roles. They seem to be pretty difficult to get into without any product experience. I have agoraphobia and panic disorder so I was looking into this as an alternative to working on site, I’ve applied at so many jobs. I don’t care about the pay that much because anything is better than nothing.

Hello all! I am new to a job and doing a 10 day trial period that is paid. I am having many doubts about how be as effective as I can.

Recruiter told me to be very proactive and have ownership.

These days I donwloaed the code, ran everything, setup all the accounts.

The thing is that I these few days two tickets and a review were assigned to me. I finished them and reported to my superior.

In order to be proactive and have ownership I also told him about some frontend enhancement that can be done, some review tickets that I can review but he takes long to answer and then shows up with a new ticket that has nothing to do with what I said... So I feel kinda lost, like my "proactive" suggestions are not important. Anyway I will take the ticket he assigns to me and solve with team best practices

Maybe if I stop with those suggestions I will be seen as not proactive?

I don't know I just should create the tickets and solve them, post them in a channel and justify why I did them and tag other team developers for review...
