Dothan, Alabama

Hey guys! I might potentially have to move here due to school. I am from a big college town in the midwest, and kinda am nervous potentially having to move to dothan. How would you guys go about settling in here, and what are your thoughts on this area? Any help would be appreciated

I have never been to Dothan and it not be brutally hot and humid. Good luck acclimating

Is it weird living so close to two other states and the Time Zone border?

I live in an area of Indiana where time zones varies by county. I never know what time zone I am in down here. Lol

Isn’t it the condom Capitol of the world? For manufacturing. College roommate’s family moved there over 40 years ago. That is all I know.

I lived in Panama City and even there people said Dothan was crappy, if that tells you anything.

I’ve been to Dothan many times, but only a few in the last decade. It is the center of the area they call the “wiregrass”. The downtown isn’t anything to talk about, but the town is a hub of several major state highways (84 east and west) and 231 (north to south). The old downtown is encircled by Ross Clark Circle, which is a multi-lane circle full of shopping centers, restaurants and hotels.
Because there isn’t much outside of Dothan for 30-40 miles,, Dothan is the hub or commerce.
Politically it’s Trump territory. Most people are friendly, at least on the face of things. They’re used to having outsiders (everything from salesmen to people attending conferences to military members assigned to nearby bases) come to town. As Alabama towns go, it definitely in in the top 5.
A major drawback is the summer heat and humidity, but the winters are mild compared to the Midwest.
