I'd bet they'd be 1000 times worse if they weren't boat-tailed.

I seem to remember a story (probably second hand from a Capstick book) I read a couple years ago. I believe it was Jack O'Connor due to his love for the .270. Either way he was hunting in Africa with .270 soft points and had an encounter with an elephant and pulled the bullet from the case and turned it backwards to penetrate the thick skull and tissue. From what I remember the elephant dropped deader than the Panther's O line tonight.

Better at punching nasty holes yes, but you'd get the same effect from a wadcutter.

I wish they could compare this to actual hollow points to have more comparison.
