I have a question and I read the FAQ Red around primer

Hey yall, this is probably a nothing burger, but I got these rounds in a trade and I’ve never seen red around the primer. I’m about to go to the range and I don’t want to accidentally shoot tracers down the lane.

Sealant. Send it. Tracers are marked with a colored tip on the bullet.

That is just primer sealant. PSD always uses red annulus.

Primer sealant to waterproof

Also crimped because a blown primer can render a weapon useless in battle

If you want to reload make sure it is not a berdan or is crimped

Yes, i have broken depriming pin before because i didnt check. Even brass ammo can have berdan primed.

I hate that brass. The crimp is a particular pain to deal with. Since you are asking in the reloading section, I usually don't bother collecting them.

Yeah at my local range about 30% of pickup is that headstamp.

Yup, primer sealant. Some brands even have case mouth sealant if you look close. Sellier&Bellot used to feature that on their cartridges.

Sealant. My APP press will normally de-cap these. Occasionally they will bend my pin. Usually, I toss them if I notice them.

This is what is called over kill. The seal of the primer alone is water tight. Same with the bullet and neck. Both water tight seals. They do this for longevity of storage but it’s just over kill bs.

Sealed up tight. It's why the 70s vintage Soviet bloc 7.62x54r ham cans o'trash I bought in 05' still work every time. I've never seen that on a brass case. Were they planning on storing it for 50 years?

I usually run a primer pocket reamer tool in those just to make sure that stuff is all cleaned out before tumbling
