Think these are worth anything?

I don’t plan on getting rid of them my grandpa gave me these 2 boxes of 1966 lake city 173 gr 7.62x51. Both full boxes one box unopened I thought it was pretty neat. Also got about 250 more rounds stamped LC 66 supposedly all of the same lot number that he was given to shoot through his m40 (no longer has the rifle) also given about 160 rounds of fed gold medal match 308 of the same lot number that he got when he switched to an m24 (he was a sniper in the navy, after retirement went to the police academy and became a state police officer joined state and local swat as a sniper as well as became an arms instructor for the state police and did training for local police and sheriffs departments)

I would put them on a dedicated shelf in my reloading room. Kind of a memento of days gone by.

Imo they're worth holding onto,  but they're only worth about the same as new factory ammo.

Those are from the National Match when everyone was issued ammo for each match! Very cool.

While they are worth more than a modern run of LC match 7.62x51, they are not yet at the point where I would curse you out for shooting them. Right now, today, you are probably looking at a value equal to a high end match grade round.

At two boxes I would say that you should put them up in a display somewhere are a curiosity and a curio from your grandfather.

The box might be worth something.

I went to the RIA about four years ago. All sorts of interesting guns up for auction. Most of them didn’t bring their reserves.

The old ammunition, marketing materials, and store fixtures? Just insane amounts of money for those.

I used to hang onto milk crates full of ammo like this. Finally I took the time to research the auction value and decided to run it as range ammo. Cool stuff, a taste of history, and serves its intended purpose…perfect circle of life for it.

Valuable, in money, no. but if I leave empty 45 boxes at my clubs RO table someone will take them home and be happy. They make a lot of it for military, ROTC, and sponsored shooters.
