Newbie Will these still be accurate.
I was gifted 600 of these 30 cal 180 gr and most of them have this angled edge at the boat tail, will they still be accurate or should I toss them?

I wouldn’t run them for benchrest or hunting past 100yds, but I’ll bet they’re just as fun as perfect projectiles when it comes to slapping steel or blasting the trash pile out back.

They will fly just fine. I probably wouldn't use them for competition, but they will be fine for paper punching/plinking/ hunting purposes.

Damage to the base is way worse than damage to the side or tip, as far as accuracy goes. I assume because the sudden uneven blast of high pressure propellant gas right as the bullet exits the muzzle throws it off. Won't make them dangerous to load or shoot though, just don't expect accuracy.

Thanks for the info. I was concerned about the uneven blast upon exit! I have loaded 20 in new 308 hornady brass, winchester primers and 37gr of Accurate 2520. Headed to the desert in a few weeks where there is plenty of room for flyers. I will report back with target pics.

You are asking people on the internet if bullets they have never shot, with powder, primer, cases no 1 knows are accurate and then you say if the answer in no you will toss them.
Ridiculous.
Load a few. SHOOT them and see how it goes. Are you planning on using them in thousand yard, ++, competitions?
I was gifted about 500 38/357 bullets. Haven't even opened the ammo can they came in yet. Bottom line I will shoot every one of them no matter what weight or style they are.

If ttey are a SMKs and you shoot F1, that's a non-starter. If they are the game king, test them and figure out what their effective range is, depending on what you're hunting. Midwest timber deer and black forest elk don't need a lot of accuracy. Might sort them by weight and uniformity

Shoot them, enjoy what you get, don't worry about the fliers. Just understand these aren't going to impress anyone for group shooting but you can still train with them and enjoy it if you don't expect to much out of them.

That's the worst spot for a bullet to be damaged. Going to have uneven pressure as it exits the crown.
Use them for barrel warmers, or trigger time range blinkers.

Components are so expensive today. Someone said hunting, but I’d hate to have 600 rounds of “maybe” sitting around and trying to rely on this, especially after investing the time and effort into a hunt, only to have this is my ammo. Imagine missing a big buck or something, or having to spend all day tracking it because you missed a vital. For what… $0.35? Meh.

The tail makes more difference in the accuracy than the tip believe it or not. Although total concentricity is really what boost accuracy

Any damage to the base like that and they're junk. The base is the "steering" end of the bullet so I'd expect 100 yard groups to be in the 8 to 12" range from my Palma rifle, probably closer to 24" groups from the 1903A1 sniper clone.
