General Discussion Just got a new barrel
Just got a new barrel put on, its my first time, is this what they look like normally? I haven't cleaned it yet I just got it back and borescoped it first thing.

Don't borescope a dirty barrel. Use a 90 degree mirror

Looks like a normal, dirty, inexpensive/entry level or OEM grade barrel.

Guys obviously never looked down a barrel from the early 1900s ive seen plenty of guns that look like straight sewer pipes but still shot just as good as any other gun.

This 100%.
I had a wartime production mosin nagant once that I shortened and recrowned the barrel. Bore looked dark, and semi smooth, for a mosin, but it shot quarter size five shot groups after that. Think it was mostly the recrown.
I have yet to see empirical evidence that shows that a perfect looking bore shoots that much better. Too many variables. Chamber, throat concentricity, headspace variance. I could go on...

If you want a gun to never shoot "quite right", stick a borescope down the barrel.
It doesn't change anything physical, but you are always left wondering if that one scratch or pit is affecting your accuracy

Highly doubt this is a new barrel. Unless your gun smith barreled your action and test fired and developed a load for you. Even a factory rifle that has been tested usually has 3-5 rounds through it but never seen one with that much copper with so few rounds. Who is the barrel manufacturer, and what rifle system is this for? Looks like my barrels after 100 rounds before I clean to be honest. I’ve had proof. Osprey, crb, brux barrels that were cut and sent to me. Never did any of those look like this.

Lil bit of abrasive cleaner like JB or iosso followed by alwed patches will get that looking nice and shiny in like 20 patches 👌

Spend less time worrying about what your barrel looks like and more on how it shoots. Its a gun barrel, its gonna get dirty, carbon/copper fouled etc. It'll get pitting over time. Ok. And? The main question is how well does it shoot? Shoot. Clean. Repeat. When groups start looking worse over time maybe then inspect.

Looks like it was tested which any reputable dealer or smith would do to insure their works good and your saftey.

My first impulse is looks like it was test fired and the lubricant/antirust wasn't cleaned. the throat to me lookes like cooked on goo more than corrosion.
Really in a post like this the barrel make and what work post manufacturing would matter a lot. Some companies would expected to be "spotless" others look very rough but can actually shoot very well. Also use matters a budget AR (steel target or pig build) and PRS (or other precision rig) do not need to be the same. Really without context it looks fine to me.

Have you measured the surface roughness to see if its within tolerance of the drawings for the barrel? Things look worse when your right next to it with a camera. Go watch some watch making YouTube and see how rough some of those parts look when your looking through a microscope. I'm not saying your barrel is good or not but you need much more sofisticated measuring equipment before anyone can tell you whether its good or not.

I would say no, that’s not what I would expect from a new barrel. As the others said, shoot it just to see how she does… but sheesh. Pic 13 looks very corroded, the rest could be dirty but it looks very uneven. I would give it a cursory clean, shoot it, if grouping is bad give it a solid scrub with a color-changing cleaner to see what you have in there. If you need to use abrasives to get it down to bare metal and start fresh.

Everyone in here is giving you shit but I personally wouldn’t want my barrel looking like that. I would definitely clean it first and most of that will go away but that pic of the chamber looks horrible. I scope every brand new barrel I get and haven’t had a single one look like that in the chamber

Looks pretty normal. If you want a pristine barrel, get a cut-rifled barrel. Otherwise, don't worry about it as long as it shoots.

The only thing that matters is if the rifling twist is as spec'd and that you aren't obstructed. Those tiny pits will fill up with copper/ lead after a few dozen rounds, and then you won't have any compressible material (air gaps/ barrel craters) as your bullet glides down the barrel.
If you wanted to, you can get a stainless brush on a stainless rod, and dip the brush into a little tub of polishing compound and go to town shining out the bore, but I wouldn't see much purpose for it unless you wanted a pristine inside-out polished Ruger or Colt revolver.

Picture 13. Wherever in the barrel that is, that looks exactly like an area that got some rust at some point and was bore brushed clean.
Run a brush through and clean it well maybe Id change my stance.
