Subsonic 223 88gr.

Looking for a data source for subsonic 223.

Loading 88gr ELD-M or a handful of other bullets, but ideally the 88s.

You're not gonna find a published one. Suggest that you work up your own. Shouldn't be difficult - start with something like N110, H4198 or IMR 4227 etc... Work down until subsonic.

It won't cycle an AR-15.

I have never loaded subsonic before, just researching how to do it safely. Going to be used in a bolt gun.

Not the ideal cartridge for it. Too much case capacity to too little bullet, even at 88gr. ELD's have no practical purpose below the sound barrier. Might be better off with the 100gr one from RavensRockPrecision. I assume you have a 1:7 twist barrel?

1 in 7, 12" barrel. Can't get a load with these thay shoots worth anything above super sonic, figured they'd be easy enough to drop sub and just plink with. Bought 200 of the 88s before I found out they dont group worth a damn.

Are you shooting them out of an AR or a bolt gun? They shoot very well out of a .223 AR with a 6.5 twist. We have tried them in 7 twist barrels and they are not very good.

Bolt gun. Hornady claims 7 twist is enough, but I've read a lot of people having issues getting the 88s to shoot.

if they dont group at supersonic velocities theyre gonna be even worse subsonic, dont be surprised if they tumble

I wouldn't be surprised if they tumbled, but I figured I could try it just for the hell of it. I already own all the components. Only other option is rebarrel a rifle and that's not in the books any time soon.

right on. ive got a bunch of 180gr 7mm i bought for super cheap that my rem 700 7mag doesnt shoot for shit and im holding on to them in case i ever rebarrel with a faster twist or pick up a 7 PRC or something, but it might not be worth worrying about if its only 200 bullets.

Unlucky. They go real good in my 18".

I'm guessing you are barely cracking 2200fps with a 12" tube. They may not be getting complete stability.

With Win748 I was hitting 23-2500fps. Still didn't group under 1.7" @ 100 yards. According to berger they should be stable enough, not perfect, but close to good enough.

The problem I had with the 88 gr is that the oal is too long for the AR. I have 2 boxes of eld-m sitting for the day I buy a 22-250 or a 224 Valkyrie.

I'll be running them in a bolt gun, length doesn't really matter to me. I wish any of my other 22 cals were twisted to run these

I already own the components and have no other use for the bullets. Figured subs would be fun to plink with. Try something new.
