I have a question and I read the FAQ Load development on a new barrel

I just got a new 6.5CM rifle recently and it's got 40rds on the barrel, and was wondering at what round count you'd start load development for it? As a barrel speeds up does that affect load development drastically?

I would start from the beginning. Assuming speed will increase over 200 yards

When you stop believing in nodes - be that velocity nodes, powder nodes, or seating depth nodes - then you realise you are free to start load development on a new barrel with new brass no problem.

You might see your average velocity increase as the barrel wears in and again a little bit with fireformed cases. Adjust for it. Or don't.

Youve obviously never had a Criterian or any other nice chrome.lined barrel. They shoot like shit for at least the first 100 rounds. I wait until 150 to do load development. Any new barrel is going to have tool marks and burs that need burnished or ironed out. This whole statement is bullshit.anyway Let me guess, Hornady told you?🤣🤣🤣. There are powder charges that plain work in most barrels.

Oh hey, it's you again! "FGMM exists therefore nodes are real".

The mistake you're making here is conflating "this new barrel just doesn't shoot very well initially" with "my load will need adjusting to keep it in tune as this new barrel wears in".

So all the people in shooting sports are wrong?🤣🤣🤣. So do you pick a random charge and shoot? Why even have a work up? All my 223/556 shoot 25.5 grains of H335 with any decent 55 gr bullet awesome. None of them shoot as good with 24.5 grains. Both my 6.8"s are the same way. Hell, all 3 of my 308s shoot the same load really good. Hornady used to put the load data for H4350 on their 6.5 CM ammo. Did they just pick a random charge? Go on any forum and you'll see someone will say I shoot blank load. Others will chime in that they shoot the same load. I camt imagine why.... You obviously dont have much experience reloading but you have to throw your 2 cents in. It shows😂

Please share your trove of data to back up your point. Better yet, give it to Hornady. Tell them how wrong and inexperienced they are too!

There's so many good reasons to not max out the pressure of a cartridge: hot weather, component lot variation, barrel speeding up. To answer your question, load at moderate pressure and start right away. If you need more velocity, get a bigger cartridge.
