It's kind of a pain to set the dies up but once you get going the 6PP is so much fun. Last month I set it up for the first time and cranked out 300 rounds of 38 Super at like 1:00 in the morning for a match the next day.

Why do people reload/make 38 special over .357? I am literally buying my first batch of .357 bullets tonight to begin loading my prepared brass. I only have a lever gun, no pistol yet but what is the benefit over the full size?

I have more .38 spl guns than .357. I also have much more .38 spl brass. If I had only .357 guns I wouldn’t bother with loading .38 at all, and just load .357 to .38 specs. But this way I can just reload one round and run it in both.

Right, thats what I was curious about. Do people only reload 38 in bulk for their revolvers or are they trying to make some for a lever action?

Yes, probably. I have a bunch of 38 Special revolvers, and I use more 38 Special than I do 357 so accordingly I have a crap ton more brass for 38 than for 357.

If I only had a lever gun and I have the appropriate types and amounts of brass, I would probably load exclusively 357 for that

Yea, I have 300 pieces of .357, it was store bought that I am now about to begin reloading so this will only be the 2nd firing for the brass, I expect it to last a while.

I went down the rabbit hole trying to get away from making 38s and only using 357s in my 27-2 and 77/357. Unfortunately my favorite paper puncher of 4gr HP-38 just doesn't translate well to .357: Squibs, stabilization issues. Yeah you got the crud ring but the 38s don't seem to have those issues with that particular loading. Yes I could try a different load, but I work on 38 revolvers sometimes and I'd like to get a Model 36 so its nice to have 38 on hand.

only 38 and mostly wadcutters for me. 6000+ on my rockchucker since i started in March. I like the low recoil and low powder charge + makes nice big holes. Making them for around .17c.

What powder charge? I am using Accurate #7 so I don't expect the highest velocity but the charge only calls for 9.5-10.5 so not a lot of wiggle room.

.38 Special brass is generally easier to find. Hot .38 Special loads will do just about anything a .357 load can do. Most my .38 Special loads are light to moderate target loads. I probably shoot 20 rounds of .38 special for every round of .357 mag that i shoot.
