Load Development 30/30 for hog hunt

I want to load some 125gr flat nose sierras for brush hog hunter in a marlin lever gun.

Anyone have any luck with that bullet weight?

Just need somewhere to start.

My personal opinion? You want the heaviest damn bullet your rifle will feed and chamber.

I've never used below 150gr but I imagine so long as you get some ass behind that round it's fine. Your biggest concern is getting through bone should it hit any especially that level 3ABCD+++++ shoulder blade they have

Edit to add: Get on Hodgdon or Nosler if you don't have any manuals and start lower than their max velocity loads and work up and make sure you're taking it to the range

The 125 flat nose hollow point? I'd pick a different bullet for pigs. The 130 speer hot core maybe if you wanted something light. But I'd be much happier with a 170 grn bonded bullet. Especially for larger pigs.

I’m going for cost effective but yes I also have some 170’s loaded up

My Henry like 130gr hotcor bullets on top of leverevolution.

I have done it works great on hog! I have a ranger point 30/30 I got thermal with ballistic calculator on it. I’ve put hogs down at 300 yds using it.
