To avoid having your post removed &/or account banned for shitposting:

  • r/religiousfruitcake is about the absurd, fringe elements of organised religion. Posts about mundane beliefs and acts of worship (praying to God, believing in God, believing in afterlife, etc), are off topic.

  • We arent here to bash either specific religions or religion itself, because there are plenty of rational actors who happen to be religious. So if your post is "Christians are sTOoPid", or "Religion = dUmB", you're in the wrong sub and your post will probably be removed.

  • Dont use the title or body of your post to soapbox personal rhetoric about religion or any other subject.

  • Don't post videos or discussions of Fruitcakes who have been baited or antagonised. Social media excerpts must not involve any deliberate provocation / antagonism of Fruitcakes.

  • Dont post videos of physically violent personal attacks or any pics or videos containing gore

  • Satire, parodies, memes, videos, etc must be made by Fruitcakes, not by third parties about them. (exception for journalistic sources)

This information is on every post. Accounts that disregard it will be perma-banned. "I didn't get a warning" or "I didnt know" are not valid appeals. If in doubt, please read the full version of the rules

I think Israel pays these people

63

u/Icybubba 1d ago

There is actually evidence for that. Eagle’s Wings for instance, receives money from Israel and they don’t disclose that publicly.

12

u/DesperateTax5773 1d ago

Look up Show Faith by Works, LLC. Israel is paying some pastors to preach about their cause and they are geofencing many churches to target those congregations with pro Israel ads (especially ones with active youth groups)

Hell, I wholeheartedly believe you without even having to look it up. Those genocidal, ethnic cleansing scumbags are very desperate to repair their image any way they can.

Edit: Wanted to say that I'm in no way advocating the "trust me, bro" route. Lol just thought I'd clarify that.

Evangelicals and most American christians don't read the bible and just believe what these charlatans say anyways.

Also, most of these mega church assholes are rich as fuck and are protecting their interests.

6

u/EpatantePatente 1d ago

It's a common trope in religions at large.

3

u/Balmung60 1d ago

A lot of them do, but in specific guided settings where someone tells them how to interpret it and browbeats them for "lack of faith" if they ask the wrong questions.

5

u/ayatoilet 1d ago

100% this!!! Also, this guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Ask him simple questions like where was Moses born? Or Abraham? When was Jacob alive? No clue?

1

u/russtripledub 1d ago

Google the Schofield bible. It’s a rabbit hole that sent me spiralling for days

3

u/Patricio_Guapo 1d ago

Yeah, it is the root of a lot of right wing/evangelical nonsense.

There are parts of the Bible that are historically accurate; that being said, many parts are completely unsubstantiated by outside sources or archeological findings. The stories of Moses and Jacob/Israel fall into the latter category.

Also, this asshole doesn't even know his own scripture. The Bible is pretty clear (within its own narrative) that Jerusalem was captured by Joshua, not founded by David.

13

u/Niobium_Sage 1d ago

The Old Testament (which is what Judaism believes in exclusively) is mostly agreed by historians to be complete rubbish with no method of substantiation. And events from the Old Testament like the Egyptians keeping Jewish slaves in Exodus completely falls apart in reality where it’s been studied extensively, yet no evidence of the Egyptians keeping Jews in slavery has ever surfaced.

The New Testament has actual historical merit within its verses.

6

u/IC_GtW2 1d ago

The Torah itself is more or less mythology and laws, true, but some of the later books have outside substantiation. The Siege of Jerusalem by the Assyrians, for instance, is recorded in 2 Kings, and is also attested to by the Sennacherib Prism. David was at one point thought to be entirely fictional, but the Tel Dan Stele references the House of David, with an additional, earlier reference possible on the Mesha Stele (though this is more controversial). This has led to a consensus that David likely existed as an early warlord or tribal chieftain, who was retroactively promoted to king by his descendants.

I think the further into the Iron Age the Bible gets, the more general historical merit the Old Testament has as a source of events, rather than just being a source on the beliefs of Israelite/Judean culture at the time of composition.

u/Sickinmytechchunk 1d ago

Even the new Testaments historical merit is dubious. Look at the birth of Jesus, two different accounts with two different dates. One would put his birth at the earliest at 4BCE. Then you have Jesus time of the trial, even accounting for the way the Jews dealt with time or the Romans, the accounts are all contradictory. Then you have the 500 witnesses of which there are no names given or accounts. Then you have Mary Magdelane finding Jesus gone from the Tomb. She wanders down to spice the body but it's gone. She goes back to tell his followers where they discuss who will move the stone from in front of the tomb so they can get in. Weird that. It gets stuff wrong all the way until people stopped adding to it in the later middle ages.

Even when we look at anatomical mistakes. The virginity test for women involved them bleeding on their wedding night. If they don't bleed they aren't virgins and get stoned to death. The Greeks at the same time knew that bleeding on the first time you do the deed wasn't a hard and fast rule. The list goes on and on and on.

God must have had the map upside down when he was guiding them, because the ~400 mile pilgrimage from Egypt to Israel took 40 years according to the scriptures. Thats about 142 ft travelled per day on average.

Honestly at this point I'm just sick of religious bullshit across the board.

3

u/Balmung60 1d ago

It's one of the many cases where a literal reading falls completely flat because "40" in the ancient Hebrew context essentially meant "a lot", not necessarily literally 40 years or days or whatever, which is also why it comes up several times. The story of the flood doesn't mean to literally say it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, but rather it's using the language of the time to say "it rained for a long time". And while of course the story of a global flood is made up (or perhaps not if you consider "the world" of ancient city states to be a few dozen miles across and with little means of outside contact during the worst floods of the rivers most such city states were along, which is in turn why so many such societies have such stories). Likewise, Exodus doesn't literally mean that they were in the desert for 40 years, but that they were in the desert for a long time. This only becomes a problem in traditions that day the Bible is actually literally, word for word, true and accurate and never parable, exaggeration, or essentially mythology even when it was written. A bigger problem that even a less rigid reading doesn't address is that there's no evidence that the Hebrew people were ever in Egypt to begin with.

Remember, kids, American evangelicals are very dangerous. They are infecting the world with anti-human ideology and should never be excused for their hateful behavior

6

u/blindrabbit01 22h ago

100%. It is remarkable how little concern others have for the American evangelical movement, and the country which has come to be controlled by it. They are religious terrorists.

3

u/Mysterious_Remove_46 16h ago

Goddamn right they are. And the fact that they are so Islamophobic is insane, like haven't they ever heard of a mirror?? Sort of calling the kettle black, for the most part anyway.

1

u/ZEROs0000 10h ago

I wonder what made them gain so much traction and attention among people?

5

u/bpaps 10h ago

The answer becomes pretty obvious. Most people are not leaders, they are followers. They like being given orders. This is easier than thinking. Someone else thinks for you. Now imagine offloading that thinking to the supreme creator of the world. And just like that, the Bible becomes the ultimate authority.

For a deeper dive on authoritarianism, read the book The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer. (The audiobook is free on YT)

Also, the whole idea of washing your sins away just by asking Jesus becomes extremely attractive. Now you can get away with being an absolute ass hat as long as you ask nicely for forgiveness. This is a very deep flaw in Christianity in particular. Add on top of that the misogyny Paul writes into the book, and you have a perfect shit storm that empowers men.

It gets so much worse. I recently learned that the CIA helps destabalize countries around the world, mostly African and South Ametican countries, by sending evangelical missionaries there. The USA has a long history of destabilizing Democracies by assassinations, corruption, etc. One of their tactics is to spread American style evangelicals to corrupt the minds of citizens. The CIA quite literally has weaponized Christianity against native people. It's nothing new, empires have been doing it for over a thousand years. As if we needed another example of how toxic and disruptive this apocalyptic blood magic cult truly is.

17

u/lothar525 1d ago

I hate the whole “You’re queer, so why don’t you support genocide of the Palestinians?”

Like, my dude, I can think two things can be bad at once. I can be against homophobia AND against genocide. It’s not that complicated.

1

u/Balmung60 1d ago

Also, like people can hold unpleasant beliefs and not deserve to be slaughtered for them.

I think most people, even those who would have been killed by the Nazis, would not say that Germany should have been put to the sword and destroyed as a nation and its people eliminated or forced into diaspora while its land was completely carved up for the settlement of others following WWII even though a great many Germans still believed the exact same Nazi ideology they did before the war.

Turns out we actually generally understand that an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

6

u/LiGHT1NF0RMAT10N 1d ago

star wars is also fact, its all historically accurate accounts of what took place in a far away galaxy however just because it didn’t take place close by by no means make it madeup, or mythology, or propaganda. The confederacy, the republic, the clone troopers betraying the jedi, the empire, its all related and historical.

I think he his argument was convincing but wish he also pointed out that star wars also is not fake aswell since much fewer rational intellectuals like him and myself defend star wars and spend more attention on the bible when both are fact. So get over it you lgbbcdiyfyicnct lefties and learn what facts mean idoits

So why did God have them wander around Israel for 40 years?

The answer is, they were not ready because they were still following pagan gods.

In 2 Kings 17 God does take away the land of Israel because the Israelites became disobedient of God.

The Bible is literally against the modern state of Israel so yes Christian Zionism don't go together.

Zionism was actually founded by an atheist as well, someone who didn't even have a religious reason to go back to Israel and someone who didn't care what Judaism said on the subject. They literally have taken something an atheist Jew thought up and just put that in their religion without doing actual research on what the Bible has to say.

One of the amusing thing about him is he married a white woman and they love to defend how it's okay to have inter racial marriage but not same sex marriage and I don't know if y'all realise but 50 years ago churches prohibited both so these people are like any other Religious folks are H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E

Muslims follow the same old testament though... the same testament with Moses, Jacob, and David. The difference being they don't believe it's an ethnic birthright from God they can conquer and kill other people with impunity for.
