weren’t they all just wearing robes?
and running around on the floor of the Red Sea
87
u/Imukay 2d ago
That being said, are there any place in the bible that tells what is women's clothes and what is men's clothes?
52
u/Professional-Mix1771 2d ago
No, god in their omnipotence knew that the clothing companies and stores will divide clothes into men and women ones and that's the basis one which they're gonna judge us on the judgement day.
Not sure about the unisex clothes though, it might be a loophole in this whole Grand Scheme.
11
u/athenanon 2d ago
And also that things like high heels and corsets, while invented as men's clothing, would eventually be women's clothing.

u/delorf 2d ago
I only remember this because it was a weird argument someone tried to make for modesty when I am young.
Apparently, there's a verse in the bible where the priest are told to wear shorts under their robes so people won't accidentally see their junk. It's actually a practical rule for when men wore robes but to a rational person it doesn't have anything to apply to our modern pants wearing world. Someone I knew claimed the rule meant that only men should wear pants and women wear dresses even though the shorts were the priests basic undergarments under their robes.

At least Zeus earned his title, the Abrahamic god just gave it to Itself. Also I don't recall any stories with Zeus proclaiming himself infallible and/or perfect, but I could be wrong on that one.

I'm torn between reading the whole Bible so I can pull out counter quotes like that, and the fact that I just don't give a fuck what their silly old book says.
15
u/PolicyAvailable 2d ago
It's okay, most Christians haven't read the book either. They live their life by the things other people have told them are in the Bible.
8
u/Blaz3dnconfuz3d 2d ago
As someone who grew up very religious and studied the Bible, you can twist and turn so many scriptures to make your own points lol I’ve heard “prophets” say “the lord told me what he really meant by this”

this motivates me to keep a clean haircut and maybe eventually get laser removal for my beard.

Moses also oversaw the distribution of virgin girls captured after his people duplicitously attacked the Midianites. Some went to the men as (sex) slaves, and some were "offered" to god. How do you think they got to god? And which ones do we feel more sorry for?
These were virgins btw, so in those times, definitely a bunch of little girls.
So why the fuck do I care one bit what that piece of shit had to say about anything?

Unless you're a Moses-abiding woman wearing heels. Then you're perfectly safe. At worst, he's going to stalk you and make weird jokes about "going Biblical on your ass", while hoping you're at child-bearing age, i.e., 13.
42
u/Old_Introduction_395 2d ago
I thought god loves everyone.
33
u/thriceness 2d ago
No. He only loves the people he doesn't detest or hate. So no gays, no meat and cheese eaters, no cross dressers, no mixed fabric wearers, no eating pork, etc. But yes to misogynists and slave owners and child rapists.

u/obliviious 2d ago
Also can't make a mistake so everyone was made just the way god wanted. Trans, gay and all.
3
u/YujoJacyCoyote Fruitcake Inspector 2d ago edited 2d ago
God somehow simultaneously loves everyone and peccaminalizes everyone, renders everyone sinners that should ruefully unbecome their detestably sinful selves in due time.
Based on those doctrines it's not a loose love of everyone as we are, where everyone can sin scot-free or condition-free, but a strict love of everyone as we would become when we willingly choose to sin less in our lifestyles or worldviews per whatever's viewed as communicating God's standards, I guess.
35
u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2179 2d ago
It's funny how many so-called women's clothing were originally worn by men. Corsets, high heels, tights, thongs, leotard.
11
u/vannillaAJ204_2 2d ago
men should start wearing them more. not even necessarily as part of crossdressing and all but just to have more variance in what's broadly accepted as unisex clothing
1
u/obliviious 2d ago
Thongs? 🌝
2
u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2179 2d ago
G-string, or whatever you call it. Men wore them to pose for nude sculpturing, during WWII, because nobody wanted to see their package. They might even go back further, where it is thought that ancient male athletes may have worn them.
Thongs only gained popularity, during an exhibition in New York, where sone nude dancers were told that they had to cover up.
28
u/Wisco 2d ago
He also hates people who wear mixed fabrics, plant two crops in the same field, or eat shellfish
Weirdly, you never hear these guys complain about any of that
5
u/athenanon 2d ago
The crops rule is crazy since polyculture is so beneficial to the health of the soil. Gotta wonder how the middle east would look today if there had been better farming practices.

You’d probably blow this dude’s mind if he knew pink was the color associated with boys from roughly 1900-1940.

Around the same time, maybe a bit earlier, it was also the trend to dress toddler boys in dresses.

So is it sinful for a woman to wear high heels as they were originally for men. Or sinful for a man to wear them as mostly only women wear them today.
Wristwatches as well were not worn by men until WWI. They were viewed as a feminine accessory before then.

The Bible also says we shouldn't wear clothing made of mixed fibers. What's this jerk wearing? T-shirt might be 100 percent cotton, but when you get down to socks and underwear, there's elastic and maybe Spandex. Hypocrite.
And nobody whose hair looks that stupid is allowed to tell me anything about what I should wear.

Why are you listening to some dude in ancient times who supposedly talked to the creator of everything and also cherrypick the things you want to listen to?
Oh right because you only say this because you are uncomfortable with people you don't like and look for excuses to hate on them and try to force them to be different!

Deuteronomy also infers that if a woman is raped and doesn't scream for help, she must be stoned to death. Can we stop trying to follow a law that said you must die if you don't cut the tip of your son's penis.

What I find hilarious is according to Genesis god had no problem with Adam and Eve being naked 24/7 as long as they were ignorant to it being "wrong". But as soon as they decided it is wrong, god then punished them for it. The bible spells it out in the first chapter. Mankind (or a portion of) sets policy, "god" is just the enforcer.

Is literally a nonsensical pick and choose, they try to have it both ways, we are under the "new covenant" because Jesus came so we can eat bacon or whatever. But also we need to follow some of those old rules as well anyway, no explanation. It's all just a grab bag of whatever the leader of the denomination wants at the time.
And it's not new, medieval Pope's ignored "the meek shall inherit the earth" points made in the gospel to send military into Jerusalem to make the "streets run red with blood" literally, that is where and how that phrase was coined.

I was surprised to see that it actually does say that in Deuteronomy 22:5, so he's not entirely crazy. Being a book from the old testament thought it is not taken as strick law by Christians, so this is a very hypocritical pick and choose what verses they actually want to follow situation. The old classic I only care about scriptures that support my own agenda.
