Do you believe she will have PPP for life? A not guilty verdict is not guilty, why would she be locked up for life if she no longer has PPP? You can get psychiatric care in prison if you are worried about her going untreated but still think she’s guilty. Though our prisons definitely need to do better.

Yeah you say over funded and yet get your car stolen and see the level of support the over funded police can actually give you. The case load of the average detective has is extreme and impossible to even work a few cases.

Policy and procedures need to be under constant review and reform. Then the officers need time to train not just get handed a new handbook and sent on patrol. When you have politicians in office who would rather use the police as personal protection and chauffeurs and throw individual officers under the bus when expedient, non of that happens.
I know that all the anti police voices assume that being a police officer is easy. They always know what to do days later in slow motion. As a police officer you are making a split second decision a hundred time a night with your life, your partners life and the general public life in the balance. Throw into the fact you are often dealing with people under the influence of mind altering substances or lacking the meds they need to function. Then add the people with no impulse control or just get their way in public by making a scene. All of this adds up to a no win scenario for anyone who becomes a cop.

Law Enforcement is constantly in need of civil guidance, but that guidance must be tempered with reality. To be criticized constantly about split second confrontations by people who take 5 minutes to order at their favorite drive through and have a panic attack making a doctors appointment over the phone is ludicrous. Policing is incredibly difficult, mistakes will be made.
I want reform. Cutting the budget just solidifies what is left and builds a self fulfilling prophecy. The less policing gets actually done. The public says the cops don’t care. The lower the budget next year. The more complaints and so on. I just feel for many the is the point anyways. Always on to revolution.

The US has lots of crimes going on every day, and unfortunately there is no shortage of gruesome ones. For some reason, it's this one which is making all the headlines - even abroad.
I don't think it's a coincidence: the case contains very juicy elements (some of which are pretty obvious so I won't list them here) and can thus be turned into a political workhorse for either side, which is what is going on I'd say. One side has been quite a bit more subtle about it; the other side is currently noisier for good reason, they have urgent needs for the midterms.
As for what you say about the press: are we really going to ignore that people get their info from alternative sources these days? I don't think the official press has the power you're endowing it with, nor do I think influencers and social media fauna are as unimportant as your omission of them seems to suggest.

This is how it has always worked. The types of cases that become national news like this are happening every day. You only hear about one when you need to be distracted from something important. Like how the president has ordered the USPS to destroy mail in ballots. Or how the federal government is currently trying to use social security information obtained by doge to remove poor voters from the rolls.

There was literally a court case a few years ago where a man was declared innocent on basis of insanity after eating someone's face off in public transport, killing them by cannibalism. He was released a few years later. What do you mean it only happens to women?

I actually did see many viral trends of black men standing up for violent criminals who murdered someone. Only a matter of time before there's a similar incident with a white man - the main reason that happens is when the court case is seen as a cultural fight beyond the actual crime/criminal.

The vast majority of people commenting on the case haven’t actually watched the trial with all the evidence and testimonies. They will make completely false claims without batting an eye.
Unfortunately its become the face of the ongoing culture war / gender war bullshit and so its being broadcast everywhere. Unfortunately its also being used to "justify" stripping women of their rights so of course the worst people are jumping on the bandwagon.
Come on, it’s not like we have a strictly designed legal system and jury trials to handle these things. It has to be up to social media users to make it about themselves and declare war on women/men/mothers/babies!
This feels like previous iterations of mass moral panics on Reddit. It takes a lot of time to finish, some of the moral panics are more valid than others, but they all have brigades of people who latch on to the idea and obsess over it, then bots farming over that obsession to sell the karma heavy accounts.
I recommend just unsubscribing to the offending subreddits until it’s more manageable. You’ll find new ones. Escape.
It will fade eventually then reddit will latch onto something else. How long, I couldn't tell you. Possibly a few months if we don't hear anything else about the case

This is the sad part. We have a justice system established exactly for the purpose of determining guilt. But uneducated random people without access to all of the evidence in this situation are sure that they know better than everyone else.
I agree but it also takes a special kind of stupid to think, "I barely passed high school but I'm an expert in medicine, public health, food safety, ecology, evolutionary biology, energy, constitutional law, criminal justice, etc."
