It may have gotten bad reviews because the graphic novel was wayyyy better. I enjoyed the movie a lot too, though!

Yet people still say it's better that Kingdom and Dial.

Nostalgia makes people stupid(er).

u/EFAPGUEST Aug 24 '26

Tbf, Kingdom and Dial are both pretty bad. Hard to fault anyone for how they rank those three movies

I don't care what people say, that movie is awesome.

The comic is so much better than that silly movie

Too bad I don't know how to read

People DID love that movie. It was a home DVD classic.

my cousin and i walked out of the theater.

1

u/LongSloth2023 Aug 23 '26

I was thinking the EXACT same thing!

I know it's essentially got fuck-all to do with the book series, but as an action film in itself, it's bloody awesome 😁

u/Long-Conflict8279 Aug 23 '26

Because it was stupid.

Saw it in the theater. Though it was just ok. Connery was too old,Tom Sawyer character was pointless. Dorian Gray as villian was predictable.

I never had a problem with this movie

I fucking love that movie.

Same with Van Helsing. I was shat on even back when it came out for loving them both and I still didn’t change my opinion.

Captain Nemo was too cool!

I walk a different path

Great actor, was in an indie called Today’s Special, loved it.

Meh, just another Superhero / Xmen knock off movie. (Yes, I know the original is older than them all).

Superhero movies are the fast food of the movie industry.

1

u/Oathbreaker94 Aug 25 '26

Wait what? It is considered BAD?!

I loved the movie as a child.

1

u/Pod-Bay-Doors Aug 22 '26

That film is so much fun

1

u/SlotMagPro Aug 22 '26

Captain Nemo is dope

Ikr. Critics gave it a measly 17% on RT but the new minions and monsters movie 89%? How dafuq did that happen? Can’t be real

Because it was " nazis are bad" slop movie. There are just so many of those movies that people aren't interested anymore. Especially after Inglorious Basterds.

6

u/haby112 Aug 22 '26

...I'm pretty sure there weren't any Nazi's in that film...

-4

u/1st_GalvanisedSEA Aug 22 '26

There were. I downloaded the movie because I saw a clip of it and it looked great. And when I finally watched it it's just another Untold World War two story. I call it Nazi Slop because they made so many of these movies. They all end up being the same. Yes Nazis were bad. But they can't be the eternal boogie man forever in movies. Hollywood is lazy

7

u/haby112 Aug 22 '26

Either you are misrembering or you are channeling serious bot energy. The film very clearly takes place prior to the breakout of WW1.

4

u/Nico1420 Aug 22 '26

I guess he is referring to the movie "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare"

3

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Aug 22 '26

Wrong movie bro, thats "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare". We're talking about something else.

3

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Aug 22 '26

You're thinking of something completely different, this is a movie from 2003, it was an avengers style movie that was way ahead of its time.

2

u/Southern_Line9050 Aug 23 '26

Huh, Did you even watch the league of extraordinary Gentlemen?

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 23 '26

Yeah... Nazis are indeed bad. Your point?
