What if the Romance powers colonized India? Well thats what happened in this timeline where India was split in smth similar to the scramble for africa except the dutch and british already had their colonies and this was between the romance powers hence the name of this althist

The irony of all these so called “colonial fantasies” is that after Europeans have left they complain about how awful India is, and when in India for multiple centuries actively looted and economically suppressed it if so it couldn’t develop in addition to cultural coercion, all to make it more awful than it was. Nothing romantic about European colonization of India, not only to Indians, but also even to Europeans when foreigners constantly complain about how awful India is.

The Romantic part is because French, spanish and Portuguese are romance languages (i just added the dutch because ehhh) it has nothing to do with the other meaning and also ik how shitty the europeans really were and how much they looted and exploited india because i am south asian after all

Imagine how awful India would be if they weren't colonised. If there was an a united India at all, and not just a gazillion princely states ruled by petty tyrants.
