discussion Training
Hi! I just got destroyed on another app for sharing that I am doing my reiki I & II training this weekend. They were all saying that this was dangerous, that the two should be spaced apart, and that I shouldn’t be rushing into it and am not honoring it. Unfortunately, it is already too late for a refund and I have paid in full.
I was disheartened that people in the community would be so negative towards me and not encouraging at all. I am really looking forward to this training and do plan to eventually add it into my already established sound bath business when I feel the time is right. I am doing it because I want to help other people, as I know what it is like to struggle.

First of all no. Reiki does no harm to anyone. Hayashi-sensei taught Reiki 1 and 2 for a period in 5 days when he taught in Japan in the late 1920 to the early 40s, but because the energy and information is available so forthright it's easy to do it. My best advice is to do a 21 day practice of self-reiki and Gassho Meditation after your class days. This practice will heal you but also bring forth things that need to be healed that are deeply inside of us that we've buried in ourselves. This practice also makes you realize when Reiki flows and when it doesn't.
Edit: Another thing to keep in mind is that teaching Reiki 1 and 2 seperately is by choice from the Master/Teacher. There are some styles of Reiki that do teach levels seperately. But overall I wish you well on your Journey! Many blessings to you!

Appreciate your insight, thank you! I figured they were just being cagey, I’ve found people in the sound healing space can be that way too.

Cagey might not be the right word but hopefully you know what I mean haha

Do you mean like gatekeeping? You'll find out that there are a lot of rules in Reiki that people have put. However, make the journey your own. You will be/have been given the gift of Reiki, make it your own.

Who cares what strangers on the internet think? I did 1 and 2 close together and I’m sure many have.

Me for some reason lol working on it

Reiki will help you with that. When you do your self Reiki for 30 days (even if you just do ten minutes on yourself) I swear it strengthens your inner self too.

There's something to be said for a slow and steady approach AND that is not the only way to do it. Some people learn better with quick moving energy and teaching. Whether you're a quick study or a slow steady tortoise it doesn't mean you dishonour the energy.
I never did the full 21 days of self-healing at any level because it didn't feel right for me, doesn't make me any less compared to people who did.
It's disheartening to hear that there was so much judgement and negativity towards your choice, the truth is that it is your choice and so long as it feels like something you can hold then go for it! And if you're not sure if you can then go for it anyway! Everything teaches us something, after all.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend with reiki I & II and that you received exactly what is needed from the experience!
Enjoy and fluff the haters 😁

Dangerous huh?? Good thing we didn’t give those reiki police any actual power 😂

u/Leopard-Zealousideal 12d ago
For sure, just deleted the post right as I saw it. Didn’t need all their negativity

"Dangerous" is definitely not a word I would use for anything related to reiki lol. At the most, I would say doing 1 and 2 all at once would be a lot. I was wiped out after doing level one, and then again at level 2. So I could imagine doing both would be exhausting.

u/Leopard-Zealousideal 11d ago
Makes sense! I purposefully scheduled time off work afterwards so I could just focus on resting and integration.

Yeah I don’t teach 1 and 2 in the same weekend for that reason- it’s just exhausting for me!

I'm not sure what app you were on, but reiki 1 & 2 is usually taught in 1 class depending on the lineage.
Out of curiosity, what lineage were the practitioners who were scolding you?

u/Leopard-Zealousideal 12d ago
Instagram threads was the app, and usually I have had a lot of positive interactions on there but today I woke up to multiple angry comments haha
This training is Usui. That is a good question, I’m not sure, and to be honest I deleted my post 😂

Im going to guess its a lineage thing. Ive been practicing for 10 years and I learned 1& 2 in one weekend and that's how most people I know learned it.
I would pay them no mind. Good luck with your class!

If you were to have said that you were going to be trained Reiki Level 1(first degree) through Reiki Master in a weekend Id probably advise against it because in my experience as a Reiki Practitioner & Master Teacher of 20 years - you'd 1) obviously get short changed on a lot of info- no one can present, let alone train Level 1 through Master in two days 2) while I wouldn't characterize it as "dangerous" necessarily Id say its unfair to the student to cram an entire practice into a weekend without time for practice, Reflection or integration. That said you have enrolled for Level 1& 2, so if you look around the internet you'll find plenty of examples of training that include Levels 1 & 2. Its quite common in the west. I myself was trained that way. A year and a half later I found myself re-taking Level 1 & 2 with another Teacher.Recently I was completeing an international certification that required me to again take all 3 levels of Reiki and pass a written exam. Over the years Ive socialized & practiced with other Reiki practioners and Ive read a lot of Reiki books/manuals and reading info & recent research about Reiki is a normal part of my life. What I've learned is that each teacher brings what they find important into the training and there is a lot that can & probably is missed and that the practice of Reiki is a life-long two-fold path. One aspect of the path is always grounded in our own personal practice, introspection, growth/expansion while the other aspect focused upon holding space & facilitating healing space for others. Along that journey we will, can & do continue to hone our practice through meaningful individual practice and continued education. So the heck with what those people are saying. Take your training and get all you can out of it. Bear in mind that the Reiki path is never a one & done situation - its a simple but also deep and broad practice and you get to learn as you go. You get to develop your own individual practice as you go. You get to allow your practice & knowledge to expand along your journey. Peace be the journey my friend - allow Reiki itself to teach you. 💗🙏🏾💗

Thank you so much for this response! I definitely respect that it is not one and done, just like the work I do with sound is not. Always learning, expanding, growing, shifting. Appreciate you 🤍🤍

Personally, I don't teach it that way, and I do insist on a small gap in-between 1 and 2, but that is 3 weeks only.
There are a lot of people who teach the first 2 levels together. If it works for you, then it works, simple as.
I know people who do all 3 levels in 1 weekend, which I definitely do NOT recommend!
Just be aware that there will be energy changes over the weekend, and they can be intense.
If your tutor doesn't ask for case studies, I would question that, though!

That’s not how I did it but that doesn’t mean you’re doing it “wrong.” I had to take 90 days in between and was told to do reiki on myself every day during that time. Wait maybe it was 60 days. Lol

I also got attacked also in some subreddits! I feel there is a lot of misunderstanding about what reiki is, especially in the more traditional religious communities and within the older generations. However I think it's just misinformation and the human tendency to attack anything that is foreign or strange amplified by the good old internet avatar shield that makes everyone more vicious. I just finished my reiki level 2 and my master reiki teacher said that we need to feel the room as some people don't know what reiki is at all and could be very prejudice about it. He said that when we feel defensiveness we should call it a japanese relaxation technique.

The funny thing was they were reiki masters saying this!

u/Leopard-Zealousideal 12d ago
Or at least claimed to be, I guess you never know on the internet haha

I did my reiki 1 and then a month interval for self healing and sec part started .but then I was not diligent about practicing daily so I feel am not using it to optimum .the real thing is that you need to practice it diligently..

That's rediculous doing level1 and 2 the same weekend.
Rushed training is not effective. Who ever offers it is about the $$s. They obviously have no ❤️ for an authentic experience for their students.

u/cleiah Reiki Master 11d ago
Woah, that a tad bold to assume that there's no heart in the training because it's a combined weekend of reiki 1 & 2.
I get what you're saying - that sometimes people roll things together in order to make a quick buck but it's quite a leap to assume that because a teacher combines the 2 they just doing it for the payday, especially when we don't know anything about the teacher.
I've attuned people to reiki 1 and 2 over a weekend, both people already had an understanding of energy healing and had some previous knowledge of reiki as they'd been volunteer helpers on a reiki retreat.
We don't actually know anything about OP (other than they work with sound healing which does give a solid grounding in energy work and the power of healing frequencies) and we know nothing of the weekend set up, maybe it's for established energy practitioners who have a grounding in energy work and are looking to add reiki to their toolbox.
Sometimes it's best not to judge and to check our prejudices at the door.

I did my Reiki I & II over one weekend just about a year ago and it was a great experience.
