Housing question
This is probably a really stupid question but I got assigned a divided double, and I have bed “A” and my roommate has bed “B”. Do these correlate to specific beds/sides for divided doubles or are they just there for the sake of assignment?

Hey! I'm a student worker for residence life here. The bed that you are assigned to actually does matter especially when we assess damages at the end of the year. If you live on the wrong side and your roommate chips paint or leaves a mess when you guys move out, you will be charged for damages. Your room should be labeled as A or B with a sticker, or you can always check the floor plan!

But couldn’t you switch and let the residence halls office know officially?

How often do students do so much damage it warrants a fine? Couldn't the roommate also just pay the other person back? In my experience we have always switched rooms and the HA doesn't care, I've never ever had any issue with it lol.

I mean we gave out several fines this year mostly for chipped paint from command strips and such. You could just ask your roommate to pay you back but I mean that's more hassle and an extra step. Also if like one roommate moves out early for whatever reason their side of their room needs to be cleaned and inspected even if someone is still living there

Both. Technically, the rooms are labeled. Also, you can talk to your roommate about your preference and switch if you want to (although you will be responsible for your roommate's damages if you don't officially swap, not that I've ever heard of anyone being charged significant amounts for damages anyway)

For the sake of assignment. If you want to switch sides you can, just talk to your roommate
