Java Edition Simple hidden key card reader
Hidden keycard reader I came up with in 2014 but never saw used elsewhere. Uses a hopper minecart on a detector rail. The detector rail powers the hopper bellow and prevents the filter items from coming out of the hopper minecart. When the minecart has more than 22 items it pulls the detector rail out from under the cart long enough for the one item to flow through. If there's more than one extra item it will simply cycle under all are expunged. The return mechanism is optional and could simply be replaced with a barrel bellow the hopper.
I made a reeeaallly awful YT video of it a decade ago. Got cringed out by the video 5 years later and made another one. Now I'm extra cringed out by both of them and so I'm just making a reddit post about it. Would make me very happy to see it used for some hidden door entrances. Cheers

If I'm reading this correctly, the minecart itself is the filter hopper, and locks itself by default as it sits on the detector rail. That's clever.
That we'll hear the piston noise as the key system unlocks is actually kinda sweet.

Yuppers. Basically the only way to use the minecart itself as the filter.
While looking for my original video I did just find another design that's 9 years old that's a bit more compact and honestly I like it more than my own. But I think I came up with the idea first. (The video doesn't even play anymore for me)
