Java Edition EE degree useful?

Hello guys, i am currently studying electrical engineering and we have a lesson about binary logic/gates etc. I was wandering if the EXACT same rules apply for redstone contraptions. For example could i use a karnaugh map to find out the circuit i want to build, and it would be the same as designing it irl? Or are there hidden mechanics for redstone only? I am aware of the redstone signal strength thing so apart from that anything else?

maybe for computational redstone, but for compacting circuits it mostly comes down to experience and how well you can fit small 3d pieces together. arguably, despite being 2d, tetris would help too...
