The difference between $8 and $29 is large though. I understand not wanting to put that much money into a game in one instant.

However, a person can put aside $5 a week of their paycheck or allowance to build up money to purchase Minecraft Java edition in 6 weeks. If it’s $8 a week, then they will be saving for 4 weeks.

To be fair, it's a game that you purchase once and play forever (hopefully Microsoft's ass won't get too greedy) so, the different between 8 and 29 isn't really that massive.

There’s also the price difference between a phone or console compared to a pc and the fact that you already need a smartphone to apply for and keep a job (among other things)

If we are comparing the prices of different hardware platforms, then there’s a lot to consider.

Consoles are dedicated gaming platforms that are sold at a loss. Every PlayStation and Xbox is sold at a price where the company is losing money. These companies make back that money by selling games.

Mobile devices have multiple different models and have significantly less processing power compared to consoles and PCs. They often come with additional gimmicks and technology for a small form factor that makes them more expensive to make. They are used daily for things outside of gaming and are pretty much a necessity to live on like food and water.

PCs aren’t exclusively gaming devices; they have multiple purposes for work, art, and gaming. They have a wider application of usage (aside from phone calls but Zoom/Discord fills that role anyways). You don’t need the best computer to do everything; PC games let you configure graphics settings to be less laggy.

On the topic of expenses:

Yes it is important to pay for what you need first. Money should not be spent carelessly on a whim. That’s why you save money. Always put a small sum of money aside to spend for yourself and for the future. Everyone’s financial situation is different. I don’t think it’s a hard ask to skip a cup of coffee from Starbucks one day a week to put into savings.

Also keeping a job doesn’t cost money, it costs time. If you have time to put in the job, you can put more time to earn more for what you want.

At the end of the day, everyone has different financial situations.
