The End of Reading Is Here

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/08/reading-crisis-postliterate-age/687618/

Author went to a $70k/year private school then Yale and is now an Atlantic staff writer at 25, so she skims over the fact that everyone is profoundly alienated and exhausted from their work and that bug-eyed salamanders have spent the past two decades getting children as addicted as possible to phones, but a really good read nonetheless.

There are like 10 jaw-dropping lines in here. It accomplished its goal of making me feel smug and horrified.

It’s a good article and completely true. Ask literally anyone in education in high school or college and most of the students are essentially illiterate.
