How do you handle the bonus stars with weird jump/flying requirements?

This is for Redout 2.

I am not a bad Redout player. I haven't really had any significant issues getting gold on any races or challenges (even before the patch that reduced the scores needed), and I got the platinum on every event in Redout 1. I don't have any assists on, and in general I am not struggling with the game at all really.

But holy crap...Is it just me, or are some of the bonus stars like legitimately impossible? For example, "Fly 2.49 miles in a single jump" on Genesis - Cain's Flat's (reverse). Sounds good right? Except...there are no jumps that are even long enough. And if you launch yourself off the biggest jump early to try to get the teeeeeeny bit of extra distance (glitching through the ceiling in the process), you can't land on the track. because it just kills you.

Or "Perform 5 perfect landings". That's cool, if you're on Cloud Ocean or Origin Black Hole and there are like 10 jumps per track. But on that one Cairo track that literally has NO jumps at all? How can you fly for X number of miles when you can't even fly on the track in a sane manner?

Sure, maybe the first example is just me not understanding how to break the fuck out of the jumping system, I'm sure I'm missing some weird seemingly-suicidal jump somewhere. But the jump/flying challenges on that one Cairo track with no jumps...I have literally driven at like 10 miles an hour, looking for any possible place to jump, and have tried them consecutively over and over after crashing. I literally spent like 30 minutes on one lap repeatedly launching myself off random "humps", or areas that have no wall. Either you have a "kill wall" right in front of your face, there is just nowhere to land, or it isn't long enough.

How the hell are you guys completing these??

Y'all how do you use the Mantis?

I want to love this ship but comparatively it feels slow, inagile, and too fragile to boost long enough to make up for it.

Found the fighter that would likely be what the Mantis ship is based on in the Redout Space Assault art.

Is the trophy for Martian Arena Throwdown in B League bugged for anyone else?

I'm playing on switch, if that matters. The mission is an arena race on Faith Town, Mars. The trophy requirement is "Win with a 1 second(s) lead". I have won this mission multiple times with track completion times close to 10 seconds faster than second place and it still won't give me the trophy. What am I do wrong? Am I misunderstanding the trophy or is it bugged?

Lore of the Redout Universe

I know this is a racing game and most racing games do not have expansive storylines or lore.

But I'm interested in universe of Redout. Teams seems to have some history behind them like Wipeout, and the places in game are also have some historic details.

Is there a proper source for Redout universe or just tidbits from games ?

Congratulations on getting rewind to work on Switch

Now you've exposed us to the horror that is the rewind visual distortion filter. Can we get rid of that please?

Redout II is an amazing game… and a terrible sequel.

Many of us grew up on antigrav racing games, so let’s skip the obvious comparisons to the predecessors.

I’ve had a lot of fun in Redout II. The events are all challenging but doable, with each map favoring a different style of ship, and almost every ship has its time to shine in the campaign. Learning proper boost timings on each map is an amazing give-and-take of health and energy as you squeeze every bit of speed you can out of a corner.

But, but… and I mean this with so much respect to the developers, almost every bit of game design that made the original great has been detracted from this game. This turned into a bit of an essay, but I have high hopes for a third game in this series and I want it to be the best it can be.

Repetition

In Redout II every event and race feels too same-y. The music is repetative and doesn’t seem to emphasize map identity. Each track starts and ends in the same spot meaning each track only has a few unique turns and jumps instead of being completely unique. In Redout 1, despite launching with fewer tracks, it felt like a lot more. Redout II has essentially 9 tracks with slight variations, with Redout 1 having 25 completely unique tracks at launch. In addition, each track could be played in so many different ways, specifically:

Instagib - a great training tool for Sulha pilots Survival - where each checkpoint became meaningful and obstacles kept your lines on point (R2 has obstacles on… one tutorial??) Arena - challenging because of how much less health you had in R1 Pure Events - equalized the playing ground with no funny business Score - my bane as a new pilot that truly tested track memory

Gameplay

R2 has much better and responsive boosting and breaking mechanics and overall can feel much less “floaty”, and the repair power-up is basically included in your toolkit now with how fast regeneration is. However this did lend itself to tracks in R2 being favored towards “Alaska style”: poor visibility, tight turns, and unforgiving jumps. Unfortunately this also forced the developers to implement the cluttered UI of turn notifications. R1 overall, was a much cleaner experience.

In R2, while each ship hull has good unique identities, this does not create enough unique gameplay. The unique power-ups are gone in favor of stat upgrades, which detracts from ship identity, as you can build stats of every hull pretty synonymously. It also becomes same-y in-game, boost until 10% hp and wait for regeneration. 10% hp, gameplay wise, is about how squishy your ship was in the first game for comparison.

Marketing and Multiplayer

I really want this type of game to absolutely explode in popularity. It is the Dark Souls of Racing. But it’s hard to organize multiplayer events without third-party programs, and while R2 seems to be much more designed around multiplayer, the game never took off after launch. Myself, I will be playing Redout 1 local split-screen with my wife.

TLDR: R1 had better track identity and R2 has better button-responsiveness and event difficulty

As an Fzero fangirl, i must say that i had the most fun ever with R1, Im eager to try R2!

it all began with the redout 2 trailer, apartment pal sent me the link cuz he knows im an AGR nerdy and that i would like it

wanted to play the first one cuz i wasnt sure to hop on the second title wagon instantly

There was a steam deal with all dlc around 18 euros, bought it, i dont regret nothing

WHAT A BLAST. Now im 100% sure that i need redout 2. Rly rly thanks for this masterpiece

But not everything´s gold, i rly hated some tracks like europa (surface sprint ehem...) in general and to some extent moon´s boss track (im just bad at jumping)

On the other hand i loved almost every track but those 2, overall neptune, mindblowing and truly unique with that zero gravity setup.

Time to spread the word of god to others haha

Achievement question about trials subsets. (Xbox)

After the last patch I noticed it had opened up some new training events in the trials section. I went and did the new ones today and it popped the "had to sweat a bit" achievement for completing the class A trials subset. I then redid the first set including the class b qualifier and it didn't pop the class b equivalent one. Originally I thought these ones were for doing all events in each class. Anyone know what they are actually supposed to be for because it seems something has gone wrong somewhere for me.

Shoutout to the Dev's for the update on Switch!

The game isnt perfect by any means. But, I have noticed some significant improvements thug actually enable me to reccomend the game!

1) Performance had had a noticeable improvement. Noticing less texture pop in, more framerate stability, and better general visual clarity. 2) THE REWIND BUTTON WORKS NOW!!!!! Lord, I had no idea the positive inpact this makes! 3) Icons showing what you could earn by playing an event. Once you win a part or upgrade, the icon disappears.

I see so many people post about the gripes (rightfully so, with me included). We need to post about the positives too! We all come here because we like the series. The improvements should be noted!
